We are inviting applications for the role of Year 5Teacher to join our Junior School Team.

Due to a maternity leave vacancy, we have a temporary, full-time role available, commencing Term 2, June 2015 to December 2015.

This is arole that must foster the development of positive relationships with students and parents in the Junior School community.

The ability to communicate at all levels and work collaboratively as part of a team, along with excellent organisational and time management skills, are important characteristics for this role.

This person must fully support the Anglican tradition and values integral to the life of the school.

THE SCHOOL

St Mary’s Anglican Girls’ School is an independent day and boarding school for 1432 girls from Kindergarten to Year 12. The school is located close to the ocean in the northern suburb of Karrinyup and, during term time, is home to 190 boarders.

Founded in 1921 in West Perth, St Mary’s moved to Karrinyup in the 1960s. The school has a proud tradition of providing a rich and rewarding education for young women to live, learn and grow. The school strives to ensure each student is nurtured as an individual and feels she is an important member of the St Mary’s family.

St Mary’s has a range of excellent facilities including the Lady Wardle Performing Arts Centre, the Lady Treatt Music and Dance Centre, Dannatt and Hearn Halls for sport and a 50 metre swimming pool. In 2005 St Mary’s purchased a 100-acre property at Metricup, north of Margaret River, where a state-of-the-art outdoor education facility has been developed.

ROLE PURPOSE

Primary Year 5 Classroom Teacher

Temporary(maternity leave), full-time positioncommencing 22 June2015 (finishing 8December 2015).

We are looking for an excellent classroom practitioner, who has enthusiasm and experience, together with an extensive knowledge of the Australian Curriculum, and thorough understanding and knowledge of literacy and numeracyto work in our Primary School. The role includes planning, implementing and assessing a differentiated academic programme to cater for a wide range of students’ needs.The teacher must be able to foster the development of positive relationships with students and parents in the Junior School community.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND PERSONAL QUALITIES

Education/Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in education

Experience

  • An extensive working knowledge and understanding of the Australian Curriculum.
  • Ability to plan, implement and assess a differentiated academic programme to cater for a wide range of students’ needs
  • High level of knowledge and understanding in the teaching and assessment of literacy and numeracy to improve individual student outcomes
  • Ongoing professional development in a broad range of areas
  • Knowledge of IT skills in all learning areas

DUTIES

Duties include:

  • Programming for the academic needs of the class using Australian Curriculum documents
  • Thorough understanding of pedagogical approaches in all subject areas
  • Following the “plan, teach and assess cycle”
  • Demonstration of meaningful differentiation oflearning experiences
  • Demonstration of a range of teaching and learning stylesfor individual students
  • Effective use of ICT
  • Providing feedback to students and parents
  • Reporting on student progress formally and informally
  • Attending regular staff meetings
  • Participating in co-curricular activities in the Junior School
