Information and Placement Application

Ngwala Willumbong Co is a key service provider offering specialist alcohol and drug rehabilitation and outreach support services to the Aboriginal communities of Victoria. Through responsive leadership from management and specialist staff, Ngwala is able to provide a high quality service to the community that is outcome focused and culturally appropriate.

There are 2 placements available for female counselling students:

WinjaUlupna Women's Recovery Centre – Female Students (St Kilda)

Winja Ulupna is the Yorta Yorta word for "Women's Haven' and is a 24 hour Residential Alcohol Rehabilitation Centre for Koori women who suffer from alcoholism or a drug dependency problems. Admission to the centre is on a voluntary basis and court referrals are also taken.

The studentson placement will be involved inthe day to day activities that go on at the centres and there will be opportunities for one to one counselling.

Behavioral Expectations:

• Students must be proactive and able to work independently – Ngwala Willumbong Co is an extremely busy agency and students are expected to be able to work independently of their supervisor while following instructions precisely
• Professionalism and clear adherence to Ngwala Willumbong Co policies and procedures- students are given clear instructions by staff as to their role is with clients and the Policies and procedures of the organisation.

Eligibility for Placement:

• Students must remain at the agency for 8-9 months.
• Students must complete the placement concurrently with ACAP clinical supervision units
• Students must attend placement each of the required days for the duration of the placement
• Students must be currently completing a counselling qualification at ACAP
• Completion of ACAP modules – students applying for this placement should be final year students and have completed as many as possible of the units detailed in the below application form

I am available to remain at the agency for 8-9 months.

I will miss no more than 2 days of placement without a doctor’s certificate.

I will attend placementon the minimum 1 day per week agreed with my Ngwala Willumbong Co supervisor.

I am aware of the behavioral expectations detailed on the information page and understand that failure to comply with these will result in the termination of this placement by either Ngwala Willumbong Co or ACAP.

If I am shortlisted for this placement I will attend an interview at Ngwala Willumbong Co on the date specified. As Ngwala Willumbong Co make the final decision regarding which students are offered placements, there is no appeal.

I will apply for a criminal record check and have it ready to upload when I register my placement. (If you have submitted your Criminal check to ACAP within the last 3 years you do not need a new one). You are obligated to inform us if the details of your criminal check have changed since you submitted it.
