INFECTION CONTROL PROGRAMME
ANNUAL STATEMENT
This Annual Statement forms part of the Infection Control Programme at Kintbury & Woolton Hill Surgeries and follows guidance outlined in The Health and Social Care Act 2008: code of practice on the prevention and control of infections and related guidance - Publications - GOV.UK

Known infection transmission events and actions arising from this / For the year 1st April 2015 to 31st March 2016 there has been one adverse or significant events raised in relation to infection control:
-Metal ear instrument protruding from clinical waste bag when SRCL came to collect. Nurse team meeting highlighted need for all metal instruments to be disposed of in instrument bin.
There was also one cold chain break in November 2015 which was reported and managed alongside TVAT/PHE procedures and was a fridge failure with embargoed vaccines later disposed of.
Audits undertaken and subsequent actions / Infection control and cleaning audits for Kintbury & Woolton Hill were undertaken in February and March 16 and action plan has been implemented. Actions include:
New matting for entrance to the surgery to be sourced.
Ongoing replacement of furniture that is not wipe clean.
Clinical waste reminders to clinicians.
Ad hoc cleaning requirements made to cleaners.
Public areas are to be painted this year.

Training received by staff / All staff have undertaken infection control training and received hand wash training in house. There is a requirement for all staff to update this training annually.
New clinical staff undertake a competency assessment for aseptic technique.
New staff also undertake occupational health screening via Royal Berkshire Hospital and are offered necessary vaccinations in house.
Review and update of policies, procedures and guidance / All policies under the umbrella of the Infection Control Programme have been reviewed and updated taking into consideration the CCG wide infection control procedures:
