Division Council Minutes
March 16, 2010
The meeting began at 4:00pm.
Stephanie welcomed everyone to the division council meeting.
SLO Update – Ray Lewis
Ray Lewis reminded faculty to have an SLO statement in their courses.
-Whoever is writing the SLO statement needs to look at the program as a whole.
-Accreditation is looking at this process.
-Deadline for SLO Statements is in June, 2010
-A workshop is scheduled at the end of March from 9:00-1:00pm in the Distance Ed Room.

Core Competencies – Merriel Winfree
-1st phase is completed
-Core Competencies will be aligned with the SLO’s and Program SLO’s.
-2nd phase – Next semester Jenny Simon will schedule a summit.
-The Team Leaders (Hiram Hironaka, Dan Richardson, Vic Cafarchia, John Ruggirello)
were thanked for helping with the Core Competencies
I&T Unit Plan 2010-2011 – Stephanie Rodriguez
-Based on Plan Builder most programs were addressed.
-Faculty are to keep updating plan builder and start prioritizing.
-Some plans are on hold until college gets through budget crisis
Equipment Installation - Mike Newton
-If new equipment is being added to labs that involves electrical, gas, air, a 519 form will need to be submitted
-Mike is developing a form to fill out to be returned to him.
-Make sure to include resources required
-The 519 form is important for the CTEA grant to fill out the request.
-If asking for equipment, it needs to be part of the plan and submitted in a timely manner.
Academic Senate - Doug Marston
-A statewide Senate meeting is coming up and a number of proposals may affect the campus.
-The Curriculum committee will have Curricuware coming up and the College Curriculum voted
for it.
-Another person is needed to serve on the Academic Senate to replace Rick Hughes
-I&T is the largest division on campus and faculty are needed to represent the division
-Stephanie will send a copy of the ballot sample from the Business Division
-Doug is the Sr. Senator and will conduct the elections
-Doug will write up the duties
-I&T will finish the Spring 2010 semester with the current senators until Fall 2010.
-A replacement for Albert Lugo is needed to serve on the Division Curriculum.
Division Council Time Change – Stephanie Rodriguez
-There was a consensus to move the Division Council meetings to the 2nd Tuesday of the month
starting at 1:00p.m. for Fall 2010.
Division Advisory Dates - Stephanie Rodriguez
-Faculty holding Advisory meetings can request up to $70 for refreshments.
-Departments need to submit the date and time of their advisory meetings to Jonelle as soon as
possible.
Division Office – Carol Quiroz
-Faculty were reminded to read their emails and respond if requested.
-Any faculty having password problems are to contact the help desk or Sheryl Kimball.
-The Division office is in the process of requesting documents to be shredded. Faculty were
asked to start boxing up any documents that will need to be shredded but to keep the boxes n their offices until notified where boxes are to be sent.
-Faculty must keep a minimum of 2 years of student grades.
Counseling – Valencia Rayford
-Valencia is still scheduling drop in hours and revising a flyer to send to the Division office.
-She will resume class visits towards the end of the semester.
-Any students with issues are to contact Valencia to rectify to graduate (for substitutions).
-A student in Vic’s class could not apply for a certificate because of financial aid. Reassured student financial aid was not the issue.
WIT – Victoria Martinez
-Working in WIT to reach out to female students in the various departments.
-Working with Katie Gleason re: Scholarships.
-Faculty needed from each division to look at the students applying for scholarships.
-Timeframe is very short for scholarships.
- Let Victoria know if anyone interested.
Student Rep – Kristin Nguyen
-No agenda items to discuss.
Construction Technology Full-Time – Stephanie Rodriguez
-Position closed on Friday, March 12, 2010.
-A notice will be sent out asking faculty interested in serving on the hiring committee.
Other
-Bo Morton needs faculty reps to read grants. Anyone interested, let Stephanie know.
Dr. Arce sent an email regarding courses that are out of compliance.
-Courses that have not been reviewed in over 6 years, will not be offered for Fall 2010.
-Get courses to the DCC as soon as possible.
Patty Gebert said departments that had made any changes in the Job Requirements for hiring faculty were to be submitted to the division office.
