The Office of Corporate Sponsored Research and Licensing (CSRL) at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Brigham & Women’s Hospital (BWH) is responsible for all interactions between MGH/BWH, its clinical and research staff and industry, having to do with industrial support of research, the protection of biological materials and intellectual property (patents and copyrights) and any commercialization of the results of research, regardless of sponsorship.

Key Responsibilities:

Sr. Technology Licensing Associate will report to an Associate Director.

S/he will work with investigators, outside counsel and industry to identify and protect the intellectual property arising from the investigators’ research activities. S/he will also be responsible for drafting and negotiating agreements pertaining to research, licensing and other aspects of investigator/industry interactions.

Responsibilities include:

  • Review of inventions arising from research conducted in the Department of Medicine at MGH/BWH (including the decision to patent or to relinquish, interaction with outside counsel, as well as formulation and implementation of patent prosecution strategy and its implementation)
  • Negotiating agreements to access materials, resources and funding for investigators
  • Finding the best licensee for a given invention through research, networking, personal contacts and communication with inventors
  • Educate investigators and industry on Harvard Medical School and Partners HealthCare Conflicts of Interest Rules
  • Drafting and negotiating legal agreements for patent licenses and options, industry-sponsored research, confidential disclosures, inter-institutional patent administration, and other technology transfer agreements
  • Developing and maintaining relationships between MGH/BWH and industry as well as between MGH/BWH and other academic institutions.

Professional Qualifications:

  1. MBA, Ph.D. in Life Sciences or other advanced degree required or compensatory work experience. Advanced degree in science strongly preferred.
  2. 1 - 3 years technology transfer or other directly relevant professional experience.
  3. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.
  4. Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  5. Ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously required.
  6. Ability to work independently.
  7. Self-motivated, action – oriented individual.
  8. Experience in basic computer software applications (e.g., Word and Excel).
  9. Experience in the use of data based applications.

Days, 40 hours per week.
