Indonesia Commemorates World TB Day 2008
In the effort to raise awareness on tuberculosis, Indonesia is commemorating World TB Day 2008 through various activities across the nation. The National TB Program (NTP) – Ministry of Health, working together with the Ministry of Justice and Human Right, is facilitating this year’s World TB Day Commemoration event in Krobokan Prison, Denpasar City, Bali Province on March 24, 2008. The main topic for this year’s commemoration is ‘TB in Prison”, with the national theme: “AYO BERANTAS TUNTAS TB”. The meaning of the theme is translated from the global one, “I am Stopping TB”.
At the event, the Minister of Justice and Human Right launched the DOTS clinic in Krobokan prison, Director General Disease Control and Environment Health launched several books of TB guideline (TB Control in Prison, TB at Work Place) And together they signed a national TB Day stamp 2008 and first day cover. TB partners joined the exhibition and the prisoners performed Balinese traditional dance and music and theater. One week previous the prisoners held some competitions such as sport. The chain of events closed with musical event and will present a famous Indonesian comedian actor as a TB ambassador, Mr. Tukul Arwana.
More events will commence in other parts of Indonesia, including TB seminars, one day workshop, TB promotion to school student, sport events, exhibitions, and media campaigns. These activities will be carried out by province and districts health office and also partner organizations such as PPTI (NGO), CARE International Indonesia (a community based organization), KuIS, IDKI (Indonesian association of Occupational Health Doctor), Aisyiah – Muhammadiyah (a faith based organization), Indonesia Pulmonologist Association, SERAMI and many more.
The NTP also produces some WTBD 2008 materials, such as T-shirt, pin, leaflet, fact sheet, advertorial, etc.

“Ayo Berantas Tuntas TB!”
· “World TB Day” , commemorated on 24 March every year. This year 2008, it is the 126th commemoration with the global theme “I Am Stopping TB”, or in Indonesia, the national theme is: “Ayo Berantas Tuntas TB”.
· Everybody can actively contributes to support the others who need access to acurate TB diagnosis and effective TB treatment.
