Rules and regulations for postgraduate studies at the Department of Economics, University of Gothenburg
The general rules for postgraduate studies at University of Gothenburg are presented in “Rules and regulations for postgraduate studies at the University of Gothenburg” (Ratified by the Vice Chancellor June 2008). In addition to these rules, the following rules apply for students accepted to the PhD program in Economics.
Courses
By the end of the first year (before September 1): at least 50 credits mandatory courses, including 10 credits in microeconomics, for second year financing and thus the right to continue the program.
By the end of the second year (before September 1): at least 90 credits courses, including 60 credits in mandatory courses, for third year financing and thus the right to continue the program.
For all students, all first year courses are mandatory. For students in Economics the second year course in Academic Writing is mandatory. For students in Environmental and Climate Economics there is a set of mandatory courses in environmental and climate economics. In addition the course in Academic Writing is mandatory.
Seminar attendance
The attendance of 12 seminars per year is required. The student should list his/her own attendances.
Degree requirement
A thesis should consist of at least one single-authored paper.
The papers in the thesis must correspond to at least 3 points. Points are calculated by the formula 2/(n+1) where n is the number of authors.
All papers in the thesis are subject to the internal quality control, which means that three senior researchers have to sign off on each paper.
