The Westglades Middle School Administration and I would like to welcome you to the 2012-13 school year. Please allow me to take this time to introduce you to the Technology Lab. This semester-long course is designed to allow your child the opportunity to explore a variety of careers through the use of computers, software and project equipment, as well as other forms of the latest technology.
Our facility is equipped with an Applied Education System (AES) modular curriculum. In this system the students rotate through a variety of 18-modules. During this time the students will do structured activities. The first day is an overview and pre-test, the second day is a real life simulation, days 3-6 are hands-on activities, days 7 and 8 the student will use technology to research information on the area of study, day 9 is used to explore careers in the field, and lastly, day 10 is a post-test and a wrap-up. As you can see, the student will be learning new and interesting things daily.
The student will be responsible to bring in a3-prong folder with pockets (a binder with dividers is also acceptable). This will be used for our opening activities each day as well as class work. The student will also need a pencil, a pen, and some notebook paper. This notebook will become the student journal. It will be brought to the class everyday of the semester. The general supplies to complete the modules are supplied by the school. Students may choose to bring in a t-shirt (at the appropriate time) to print on, this is optional, and not a requirement. If students waste their supplies, he/she is responsible for the cost of the additional supplies. If necessary, an alternate assignment may be given in lieu of the lab project.
In order to make this a successful semester for all the students I am asking for your support. I will be in contact with you as needed. I invite you to come see what is going on in the Technology Lab here at Westglades Middle School. Feel free to call me at school; I will get back with you as soon as possible. I am easiest to reach by e-mail (). Contact information can also be found via my website:

Throughout the year we may view a subject-related film. There will be an educational activity to go along with the video. School policy requires parent or guardian permission to view a movie with a PG or PG13 rating. A sample of the videos we have viewed in the past are:
TRON Legacy (PG)
Apollo 13(PG13)
We usually show the film in the last week of the semester. At this time we show one of the above-mentioned films and do a related activity.
