Below is information about your student’s second quarter reading requirements. Please review the requirements with your student and then sign below.

GUIDELINES:

Step 1.A student must have “book approval” on all book selections BEFORE he/she

begins reading a book.

• “Book approval” is a core subject teacher’s signature on the IRC Log (on back).
• Books should be on or above the student’s reading level. The book can be slightly below the student’s reading level within reason.
• It is the student’s responsibility to make sure there is an Accelerated Reader (A.R.) Comprehension Quiz available at Windy Hill Middle School for every book they select to read (the quiz list is available on lake.k12.fl.us/whm  media center  WHMS AR List) or ).

Step 2: Students must read their approved book independently and/or when class time is given.

Step 3.Students must ask for “test approval” to take an Accelerated Reader Comprehension Quiz BEFORE they take an A.R. Quiz. Test approval is a core subject teacher’s signature on the IRC Log (on back).

Step 4. Take the A.R. Quiz immediately in the classroom of the teacher who gave you test approval. Students must pass an A.R. quiz with a score of 60% or above in order to receive credit for reading the book.

Note: This reading contract should be considered homework. Occasionally, students may be given time to read, go to the library, check book information, and take A.R.quizzes in some/all of their core academic classes (during X-Block).

CONTRACT POINTS:

200 points – Student must read 4 books and pass their A.R. Quizzes (60% or above) – at least 2 must be nonfiction.

150 points – Student must read 3 books and pass their A.R. Quizzes (60% or above) – at least 2 must be nonfiction.

100 points – Student must have read 2 NON-FICTION books and pass their A.R. Quizzes (60% or above).

50 points – Student must read 1 NON-FICTION book and pass its A.R. Quiz (60% or above).

* Students will only receive contract points if they turn in their Independent Reading Contract Log with the appropriate signatures by the IRC deadline.

*The guidelines must be completed in the correct sequence in order for points to be awarded.

(Up to 2 books; 25 points each – extra credit is valid once the original book requirement is complete).
