Food Challenges

There will be a food-related challenge each day this week.

You can choose as a group whether to sign up for it.

The whole group can participate or just one or two people can decide to sign up.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE: Fruit and Veg ‘What Am I?’

On the reception desk are two trays of unusual fruit and veg.

Each item has a numbered label or small numbered sticker on it and there is a sheet with the names of all the different fruits and vegetables.

How many can you identify correctly?

You can consult any reference books back in your classrooms but you cannot bring them to reception. And you can’t take the basket back to the classroom!

The group with the most correct answers wins.

If there is a draw, the group that includes the most facts will be the winner.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE: Invent a three-ingredient recipe

You don’t need to make it, just invent it and write it down.

Three ingredient recipes can be fabulous if you use good quality food and maximise flavours. Think carefully about the combinations of foods that you choose.

Salt, pepper, other dried spices, flour, oil, and water aren't counted in the ingredient total, nor are decorative items.

Here is one easy recipe to get your creative juices flowing.

Tomato Pesto Spaghetti

This is a fabulous summer recipe. Make it only when tomatoes are fresh and impeccably ripe.

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 12 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. spaghetti pasta
  • 10 oz. container basil pesto
  • 4 ripe tomatoes, chopped

Preparation:

Cook spaghetti according to package directions until al dente. Drain, reserving 2 tbsp. cooking liquid. Return to pot along with reserved cooking liquid. Stir in pesto over low heat until spaghetti is evenly coated. Add tomatoes at last minute and serve. 4-6 servings
