Independence Day Sked

To commemorate the 107th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence, the Philippine Consulate General in Toronto wishes to invite fellow “kababayans” to its Open House located at 161 Eglinton Avenue East, Suite 800, Toronto, Ontario on June 10, 2005 ( Friday) from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

This year’s theme is “Bayan Ko Mahal Ko.”

The Consulate likewise enjoins all fellow “kababayans” to participate in several Independence Day related activities organized by various Filipino-Canadian associations in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and vicinties, namely:

Thursday (June 9)

12:00 noon – Flag-raising ceremony and reception– Federation of Filipino Canadians, Provincial Parliament, Queen’s Park, Toronto.

Saturday (June 11)

12:00 noon - 10:00 p.m. – Pistahan sa Toronto presented by The Filipino Centre Toronto (FCT) at Nathan Phillips Square, Toronto

12:00 noon - 3:00 p.m. – Flag-raising and Reception – Filipino Canadian Association of Vaughan, Vaughan City Civic Centre, 2141 Major Mackenzie Drive and Keele Street.

6:00 p.m. – Independence Day Dinner and Dance hosted by The United Filipinos Association of St. Jamestown with Silayan Community Centre, 240 Wellesley Street East, (sub-basement), Toronto.

7:00 p.m.– 5th Joint PIDC-Kalayaan Gala Night, International Plaza Hotel, 650 Dixon Road, Etobicoke

Sunday (June 12)

8:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon - Flag-raising and Reception – National Congress of Filipino Canadians at Nathan Phillips Square, Toronto

11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Flag-raising and Program – hosted by the Markham Federation of Filipino Canadians at Markham Civic Centre, 101 Town Centre Blvd., off Highway 7, West of Warden.

11:00 a.m. Independence Day Picnic – hosted by Kalayaan 2005, Mississauga Valley Community Park, Ontario.

12:00 noon – onwards Flag-raising and Pot luck picnic – hosted by the Federation of Filipino Canadians of Brampton at Brampton City Hall and El Dorado Park, Area 5 off Creditview Road.

Saturday (June 18)

9:00 a.m. onwards, Philippine Independence Day Council (PIDC) Picnic, Earl Bales Park, Bathurst Street.

Sunday (June 19)

11:00 a.m.- Wreath-laying ceremonies at the monument of Dr. Jose P. Rizal led by the Knights of Rizal, Earl Bales, Bathurst Street.

The Hamilton Filipino Community Centre has also informed the Consulate General of a series of events celebrating Philippine Independence: Gala Night at Carmen’s Banquet Hall on 10 June, Flag-raising ceremony on 11 June, and a Mass at the Community center at 4:00 p.m. on 12 June.

The Philippine Consulate General in Toronto welcomes the holding of other Independence Day-related activities and is prepared to assist in disseminating these activities.
