Inclusion and Exclusion Criteria for New Combination Flea Control Product for Dogs

The Veterinary Specialty Hospital (Sorrento Valley) is currently participating in a clinical study which is designed to evaluate efficacy and safety of a new combination product in the treatment and control of fleas in dogs. Dogs qualifying for the study will receive treatment, physical examinations and blood and urine testing at no charge.

  • Each dog will be on study for approximately 60 days.
  • A household may consist of 1 to 3 dogs. Households with more than 3 dogs are not eligible.

Dogs eligible for the study:

  • Must be > 8 weeks old and weigh at least 4.0 lbs
  • Have at least 10 or more adult live fleas at the initial study exam (if more than one dog per household only one dog needs to have 10 or more fleas)
  • Have a temperament suitable for flea combing
  • Are in good general health
  • Have an owner who is willing and able to bring their dog (s) back to the Veterinary Specialty Hospital (Sorrento Valley) for two additional visits after the initial exam (approximately 30 days in between visits)
  • Have an owner who is able to administer oral treatments for flea and tick prevention to their dog (s)

Dogs are not eligible for the study:

  • If treated with any oral or ‘spot- on’ flea control within 30 days or the limit specified on the product label for efficacy if other than 30 days before the initial visit
  • If treated with a spray, powder and/or bathing product that has efficacy against fleas within 3 days before the initial visit
  • If currently receiving Proheart®6 for heartworm prevention
  • If there are plans to bring a new dog or puppy into the household during the study period
  • Males or females intended for breeding or females suspected to be pregnant or lactating are not eligible.
