LABOR CATEGORY DESCRIPTIONS

JOB TITLE:FIELD CHEMIST

The essential elements of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Technical individual responsible for handling, packaging, transportation and disposal of hazardous laboratory chemicals and wastes
  • Reports to the Project Manager and Site Supervisor and may perform analysis of chemicals, development of safe handling and packaging protocols and adhering to proper safety and environmental regulations.
  • Work in teams to perform lab pack services including chemical segregation, packing, and disposal.
  • Perform chemical inventories
  • Perform audits and field sampling in facilities and laboratories.
  • Able to calibrate and operate monitoring meters such as (PID, 4-Gas, Noise Dosimeters, Dust Meters, Air Sampling Equipment)
  • Knowledge of EPA Waste Codes and DOT Manifesting and Land Disposal Restrictions
  • Responsible for correct labeling and segregation of hazardous waste, ensures manifest and lab pack sheets are correctly filled out before shipping.
  • Ability to read chemical names and identified chemical hazards
  • Knowledge of NIOSH guide and ERG 2008

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • BS/BA in environmental science, Chemistry, Biology, or safety related field
  • CHMM / CSP highly desired
  • Knowledge of RCRA, EPA, OSHA Standards / regulations
  • Knowledge of safe chemical handling procedures
  • Knowledge of RCRA / DOT Hazardous Waste Shipping
