Brand Name

All members, including International Board officers, International Committee Chairmen, Region/Council/Club officers, are reminded to write our brand name correctly as follows:

POWERtalk International

The Board asks you not to use the brand name in conjunction with ITC or International Training in Communication. ITC is reserved for the Bylaws and Standing Rules of the organization as well as when referring to the International Board who are the ITC Board of Directors.

The Board appreciates your attention to this. Use our brand name properly and get the name POWERtalk International out there to the big wide world.

In-person Board Meeting

The International Board has just had a three-day in-person Board meeting. Even though the Board has constant email contact with each other and meets regularly via cyber meetings, in-person Board meetings are vital for real and effective discussion anddebate.

The Board has debated at length many of the issues our organization faces. We have one message: ONE + ONE

HAWC

Hands Around the World Chain

Ten Tips

Want to be represented at the 2011 Indianapolis Convention?

Want to help another club be represented and give their viewpoint at the 2011 Convention?

If so read and follow these ten tips.

  1. Any member registered at Convention (also Members-at-Large) may act as a Delegate for any club that does not have a Delegate present.
  2. Every club that has no Delegate attending Convention can ask to be represented by a HAWC Delegate.
  3. If you are planning to go to Convention and your club already has a Delegate, help yourself by becoming a link in the HAWC program.
  4. Every club can play an active part in the business session via their HAWC Delegate.
  5. Through HAWC, clubs have a chance to voice ideas, opinions and concerns they otherwise would not have had.
  6. The HAWC Delegates will have an added dimension to their Convention with the chance to build contacts with a new part of the world.
  7. As soon as a club and a Delegate are matched they can start corresponding in order to get to know each other and prepare for Convention.
  8. The club makes sure that their HAWC Delegate receives the appropriate Delegate’s Credentials for the Convention.
  9. With HAWC, POWERtalk International gets a more representative input on international amendments. It makes POWERtalk International a truly global organisation, and members establish new relationships and understandings.
  10. HAWC Registration forms are available on the POWERtalk International Website .Go to Member Resources ► Events ►Convention.

Protocol – Often Asked Questions

From Protocol Chairman – Irene Laidley

  1. Who should be seated at the Head Table?
  • Only guests and members who are participating on the program.
  • If you have a VIP in attendance that you would like to honour, either plan an honour table or introduce the VIP after your introductions of the head table.
  1. The husband of our guest speaker will be in attendance, should he be seated at the head table?
  • My advice is ‘No’ because only program participants should be at the head table and he may feel very awkward being a non-participant.
  1. We like to honour our club members who are serving at other levels of our organizations, how should they be introduced?
  • Start with the highest rank at the international level, then region level and then at council level and then club level.
  1. We have a member who has in the past been on the International board and the region board. This year she is serving on the council board. Should all her past service be mentioned in her head table introduction?
  • No, her initial introduction should contain her current office. Her introduction prior to her presentation could include her past accomplishments.
  1. An error in protocol occurred at our meeting. How should the correction be handled?
  • Apologize privately to the members involved, doing it publicly only embarrasses those concerned.
  1. Our president used protocol in her seating arrangements that belonged to another organization. Should this be allowed?
  • This confuses the members who learn by watching what our leaders do therefore, we should all use our ITC protocol guidelines.

For more protocol information, refer to the POWERtalk International Master Manual, Section 6, Organization Basics 11, Protocol and Section 9, Officer Manual, Protocol or contact Irene Laidley, DC, International Protocol Chairman –

PREM on the Website

  • Ten pages full of amazing tips and ideas in Techniques for Publicity. Every PREM Committee at ALL levels should read this.
  • A marketing feature called Recruit, Regain, Retain is full of ideas on “Selling the Organization”
  • The PREM committee has providedtips, ideas and a sample letter on how to gain sponsorship for you club/council/region event.

Leading through Change

From Publication Chairman – Louise Stanford

Soon it will be time to attend Convention. The above education features will help each member to be a better attendee. The features are classified as being under the category of Self Development. You might think – how will this help? Let’s start with listening skills.

  • Do you really listen to what others have to say? Do you realize that others may have ideas where you need to make an educated vote on,such as during amendments to the by-laws?
  • Have you ever wanted to stand and ask a question during a meeting and didn’t because you weren’t sure of your ability to communicate your thoughts?

“Develop you Listening Skills” is the right feature for you whether attending convention of not.

Thenext feature is “Build Better Communication Skills”

  • It will help you gain confidence to stand and be heard not only at conventions, conferences, club meetings, but in any phase of life.
