IT WAS WORTH THE DRIVE TO GEORGETOWN

Cougar fans who drove to Georgetown for an unusual Wednesday night

in the schedule were treating to a thrilling game. This was a battle for first

place as the Raiders entered the game just 2 points ahead of the

Cougars with the Cougars holding a game in hand.

Both the Cougars and Georgetown are known for their fire power with

Georgetown scoring 92 times and the Burlington 79 on the season.

The Cougars were pumped up in the dressing room for this big 4 point

game against the league leading Raiders. The Cougars hit the ice at full

speed and wasted no time getting on the board. Tyler Wiseman opened

the scoring on a beautiful powerplay goal at 2:23. After the faceoff the

Cougars wasted no time storming the Georgetown end and

Mitch Nardi added to the lead just 40 second later. It was a great offensive

period as the Raiders outshot the Cougars 17-16 and got closer with a

goal at 6:17.

Coach Dan Currie, Assistant Coaches Greg Large and Andy Tait

kept the team motivated between periods and the Cougars again took it

to the Raiders early in the period with sniper Patrick Marsh drilling an

awesome shot over the Raiders goalie at the :57 second mark.

Georgetown stormed back with 2 goals at 7:56 and 13:50 but the Cougars

skating at high energy came back just :39 seconds later as Mitch Nardi

added his second goal of the game at 14:29, sending the teams to the

dressing room 4-3 for the Cougars.

The third period was one of the most exciting of the season as the teams

skated up a down the ice with many scoring opportunities. The Cougars

restored their 2 goal lead when Patrick Marsh notched his second goal

of the game at 4:35. A penalty to the Cougars gave the Raiders the

chance they needed and they pulled within one goal at 5:53. With

Georgetown pushing for the tie Dalton Jay restores the Cougars two goal

lead at 8:26. It began to look like the last shot on net might win this game

as Raiders notched another goal at 9:49 to once again draw within one

goal of the Cougars.

The last 10 minutes were some of the best end to end action you will see

and both Goalies played well with Volpe making some amazing saves in the

last few seconds of the game to finally give the Cougars the victory.

The Cougars host one of their longest rivals In Hamilton this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Wave Twin Rinks. We look forward to seeing you all there.
