In Memoriam

Donations in memory are a wonderful way to honour the life of a loved one or commemorate a special occasion. Donations help ensure that our sites can continue to be enjoyed by future generations.

If you would like your loved one to be remembered or wish to commemorate a special occasion at one of our sites by placing a memorial bench the please contact

Historic Integrity of the Sites

Because each Jersey Heritage site has its own historic interpretation any bench placed on the site needs to be in keeping with this interpretation which reflects the historic integrity of the site.

Therefore Jersey Heritage have developed a supplier and a ‘bench style’ for each Jersey Heritage site. From 24 April 2015 all benches purchased for the sites will be in the approved bench style relevant to that site.

Costs

Jersey Heritage have developed two in-memoriam options for donors.

1)  Buy a Plaque

A plaque can be purchased and placed on an existing bench at a Jersey Heritage site. This plaque will be placed on a bench with up to 5 other plaques. The plaque will be on the bench for a 10 year period from the date of installation. At the end of the 10 years Jersey Heritage will contact the donor to request a renewal of the plaque. Should the donor not renew the plaque will be removed and be available for collection from Jersey Heritage for one month following the removal of the plaque.

Cost £500 for a plaque for a term of 10 years.

2)  Buy a Bench & Plaque

An approved bench style and plaque can be purchased and placed at a Jersey Heritage site. Jersey Heritage guarantee that any bench purchased through this scheme will only have one plaque on that bench.

The bench and plaque will be in place for a 10 year period from the date of installation. At the end of the 10 years Jersey Heritage will contact the donor to request a renewal of the bench. Should the donor not renew bench and plaque will be removed and can be made available for the donor to collect from the site (at their own cost) for one month following the end of the 10-year contract.

Cost £1,500 for a bench and plaque for a term of 10 years (no other plaques placed on the bench for this term).

Jersey Heritage Responsibility

·  Jersey Heritage will maintain the bench and plaque for a term of 10-years at no additional cost to the donor.

·  Jersey Heritage will contact the donor at the end of the 10-year term to discuss renewal of the in-memoriam donation.

·  Jersey Heritage will hold for one month only (from date of renewal) the bench or plaque for the donor to collect at their own cost if renewal is not taken.

·  If the bench becomes unusable for any reason during the 10-year term, Jersey Heritage will replace the bench at no additional cost to the donor.

Responsibility of the Donor

·  The donor should update Jersey Heritage with any change of address.

·  The donor will allow Jersey Heritage to maintain any benches as Jersey Heritage deems necessary. This includes removal of the bench for a limited period to complete maintenance.

·  It is suggested that due to the entry fee system at Jersey Heritage sites, a donor becomes a Member or Patron of Jersey Heritage to ensure that they can visit the bench at any time (subject to published opening hours).

This policy has been written in response to public demand for in-memoriam benches at Jersey Heritage sites. Research has been carried out with organisations to develop a cost and care package in line with other historic monument organisations.
