Residency opportunity for disabled artist

ARCStockton, in association with Little Cog, is seeking an emerging disabled artist or disabled-led company to take up a residency opportunity in June/July 2016, as part of its Cultural Shift programme.

Cultural Shift

Cultural Shift is ARC's strategic programme of activity, delivered in partnership with Little Cog, actively programming and delivering new and increased opportunities for disabled people in the arts. We are working to ensure our cultural landscape is vibrant and representative of the people livingand working in our communities.

The aims of Cultural Shift are:

  • to challenge negative commonly held perceptions about disability and disabled people
  • to involve disabled people in the arts at every level

ARC, through its artistic policy is committed to supporting work which is contemporary in its approach and relevant to peoples’ lives today.

The work of disabled artists and participants in the programme may or may not have a disability focus, although we are ensuring that the work is disabled-led.

Residency opportunity

Through the Cultural Shift programme, ARC is offering a residency package designed to support a disabled artist or disabled-led company to develop new performance work.

The residency could be used to research and develop a new idea, or to rehearse a show in development.

The package includes:

  • Up to £2,000 in cash to pay for artist fees, travel and accommodation costs
  • A week’s worth of free rehearsal/development space at ARC
  • Opportunity to perform an excerpt at a scratch night or hold a stand-alone sharing of the work
  • Advice and guidance on the future life of the work, including consideration for ARC’s own programme

Access

ARC is an accessible building and we aim to meet everyone’s access requirements.

Selection Criteria

  • Artists must be living and working in the UK
  • Applications must be made by artists or companies who have produced at least one show (this project is not aimed at youth theatre groups or undergraduates)
  • This opportunity is open to disabled people as the nature of Cultural Shift and its funding is to increase opportunities for disabled people in the arts. The artist’s work may or may not have a disability focus.

  • How you and your work can contribute to the aims and artistic vision of the Cultural Shift programme

Interview

Interviews will take place on Wed 4 May and where possible will be held at ARC, if this is not accessible to any candidates we will make alternative arrangements, please give as much notice as possible.For shortlisted candidates attending an interview, ARC can assist towards travel expenses and also cover personal access costs.
