Position Title: President/Chief Executive Officer

Reports to: Board of Directors

Overview:

The President/CEO of Louisiana Association for the Blind (LAB) demonstrates strategic, visionary leadership, and is responsible for the success of all aspects of the organization in accordance with the direction and policies established by the Board.

The President/CEO assures LAB’s full transparencyandtheaccountabilityofthe organizationtoitsconstituency.

The President/CEO oversees legislative activities and builds strong relationships with local, state and federal elected officials to expand LAB’s funding sources and public support.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the general management of all operations, including manufacturing, employment, services, finance, and administration.
  • Responsible for budget proposals and developing agency’s annual budget working in cooperation with the Board, Director of Finance, and Executive staff.
  • Directs business expansion efforts that will contribute to the overall growth and visibility of LAB through collaboration with businesses, entrepreneurs, and other organizations.
  • Promotes programs and services that are produced in a cost-effective manner, employing economywhilemaintaininganacceptablelevelofquality.
  • Works with legislators, regulatory agencies, volunteers, and representatives of the not- for-profit sector to promote legislative and regulatory policies that encourage a healthy communityandaddresstheissuesofLAB’sconstituencies.
  • Ensures all current and future funding relationships are managed appropriately.
  • Responsible for the development of the organization’s philosophy and the programs, activities, and services necessary to carry out that philosophy in a manner that meets the mission of the organization and needs of the consumer.
  • Sets goals for the entire organization together with the managers and directors of the departments; establishes measures for effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Ensures all activities of the organization adhere to all federal, state, local, legal, and contractual requirements.
  • Responsible for public awareness of the agency and its services within the local communities, the state of Louisiana, and at the national level and serves as chief spokesperson for LAB.
  • Maintains membership and attends meetings of appropriate professional and non-profit related organizations.

Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in area of business or management is required.

A minimum of two (2) years of experience with demonstrated success as a Vice President or equivalent executive management level position is required.

  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work with people who are blind or disabled
  • Knowledge of Federal procurement and contracting procedures and policies helpful.
  • Proven strong leadership ability.
  • Must be action oriented and innovative with ability to transform broad goals into achievable steps.
  • Anticipates and solves problems, aself-starter, and teambuilder.
  • Conveys a professional and positive image.
  • A valid driver’s license, good driving record, and proof of current auto insurance

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

  • This is a high-stress position based on full responsibility for LAB operations. Handles detailed, complex concepts and problems, balances multiple tasks simultaneously, and makes rapid decisions regarding time sensitive issues.
  • Maintains a flexible work schedule to meet the demands of executive management.
  • Hours may be long and irregular.
  • The position requires a minimum of 35% travel.
