Title of Post:Money Skills Volunteer Coordinator

Responsible to:Operations Manager, Norfolk.

Hours of Work:30 hours per week

Salary:£22,885.86 pa pro-rata

CONTEXT

The NorfolkCAB is the largest bureaux in the country in terms of numbers of advice workers (most of whom are voluntary). The Bureau is an independent organisation providing free, confidential information, advice and advocacy to the public.

Build It Up (Great Yarmouth) will create new capacity within communities to enable tenantstomanage their money.

The programme will:

•Employ Money Skills Workers to provide early intervention advice to

tenants in seasonal employment, who will link tenants and their

families to a range of current money management tools and signpost to

financial products and services available locally.

•Develop a “Bank of Great Yarmouth” taking banks and building

societies into the community, forging closer links between staff from

local bank/building societies and tenants.

•Develop a pool of trained Money Skills Volunteers, based with the

Citizens Advice Bureau, who will work across their communities to

support tenants manage money effectively as the long term legacy of

the funding.

Project outcomes:

1. 40% reduction in the number of tenants in seasonal employment in serious rent arrears or receiving notice to quit.
2. 25% of tenants in seasonal employment successfully manage the transition from work to welfare as a result of increased confidence in managing income all year round
3. 2000 tenants in seasonal employment have increased knowledge and awareness of the financial services and products available to them
4. 1000 tenants in seasonal employment have accessed appropriate, affordable financial products as a result of the reduction in barriers to those services in their local community

Purpose of Post

The postholder will be responsible for recruiting and training 30 Money Skills volunteers who will work within the CAB at Gt Yarmouth and in the community. They will also work with other project staff to promote the project, nurture and develop the community volunteers and to meet project performance targets.

1.0Recruitment of Volunteers

  • Devise and implement a recruitment and training plan to recruit 30 Money Skills volunteers over 2 years, ensuring that the prime focus is to enable learning and to empower clients of the project.
  • Work with local organisations and partner agencies to identify sources of recruitment for volunteers for the project.

2.0 Training, Development and Support of Volunteers

  • Devise effective learning activities, using the work already being done by the Money Skills project workers and adapting trainingmaterials from Citizens Advice.
  • Delivery of appropriate learning activities to volunteers in both groups and as individuals.
  • Work with the volunteers through mentoring and dissemination of information
  • Ensure systems are in place to collect feedback on what learners have learnt and been able to put into practice.
  • Carry out appraisals and monitor the quality of the work carried out by volunteers
  • Collate and review feedback on learner outcomes and the quality of the service.

3.0 Partnership Working

  • Establish, develop and maintain a range of partnerships to reachlearners and gain support for the project.
  • Participate in other meetings as required.
  • Assist in developing relationships with key partners and other partner agencies.
  • Assist in the collation of statistics relevant to the project.

3Wider Environment

  • Keep up to date with changes in legislation, policies and practices in relation to your job role, identifying your own training needs where appropriate. Ensure that you feedback such information to other members of the unit.
  • Attend team meetings, CAB staff meetings and those involving other workers as appropriate.
  • Participate in the work of the CAB as a team member, being prepared to give and receive support from colleagues.
  • As directed by Bureau management to collate statistical data and produce reports for the Operations Manager.

5.0 General

  • To carry out extra tasks where appropriate as determined by your

manager.

  • In the absence of appropriate administrative staff or volunteers, carry out all administration and clerical duties.
  • Maintain your diary for appointments and any follow up actions.
  • Ensure all required records and statistical information are kept upto date, and that reports are submitted to meet Bureau and contractual deadlines.
  • Meet performance outcomes as set out above.

Person Specification

Essential / Desirable
Experience of recruitment . / Experience of establishing and developing partnerships with other agencies and joint working.
Experience of working with volunteers. / Understanding theory and principles of adult learning and development.
Experince of devising and delivering training to both groups and individuals. / Qualified or part qualified CAB Adviser.
Able to get the best out of people from a variety of backgrounds. / Experience and knowledge of Money Advice.
Ability to work to achieve set targets. / Experience of advising clients face-to-face.
Ability/ experience of planning and developing learning activities.
Ability to sensitively empower and engage with adults who have had poor experiences of formal education.
Excellent time management and organisational skills - planning and prioritising own work load.
Ability to use IT applications to record statistics, produce documents and training materials and keep accurate records.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to relate and work with a larger variety of different people.
Non judgemental, willing and able to work in accordance within equal opportunities policies.
Experience of negotiating with third parties.
An ability and willingness to work both on own initiative and as part of a team.
