IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE

Please take notice that we were obliged to lower the weight limit of the Woodlawn Bridge effective immediately due to a major deficiency (cracked support timbers) found during a required annual bridge inspection. The weight limit has been reduced to three (3) Tons. Our engineer has assured us that the bridge will continue to safely support single-axle passenger vehicles, to include pick-up trucks. Light vehicle-trailer combinations are also allowed to cross so long as the combined axle weight of the vehicles on the bridge deck at the same time does not exceed 3 Tons. All dual or tandem-axle vehicles and all dual-wheeled vehicles (with or without a load) are prohibited from crossing until we are able to make needed repairs.

Guidelines for property owners and residents who reside north of the Woodlawn Bridge:

Garbage Collection. Please place your residential waste curbside on the same schedule you presently use and in the same containers you presently use. The City’s DPW crews will collect your curbside waste and transport it to the south side of the bridge where it will be transferred to Waste Management after which your waste containers will be returned curbside.

Mail. No Changes.

UPS/FEDEX. The City has informed these agencies of the weight restrictions to facilitate any necessary delivery changes they need to make.

Utility Services or Outages. If during normal hours (8am-5pm), call our DPW Utility Billing Clerk at 989.386-7541, x201; after hours, call 989.329-5092. The City will coordinate all necessary utility service calls for you with the respective utility provider.

Emergency Services. No change. The City has worked out procedures with the respective emergency services (police, fire, ambulance) agencies.

Other services or Questions. Contact Clare City Hall @ 386-7541, x201 (“0” if no answer or busy).

We are working with our engineer to make the needed repairs and hope to have answers in respect to the length of time these restrictions and procedures will remain in place shortly. We hope to provide you an update within the next week.
