A completed FAFSA application is required for students to receive certain financial aid opportunities in college. Please speak with a college admissions representative for more information about the financial aid process at the schools that you are applying to.

Seniors - Scholarship Deadlines Fast Approaching

Seniors, take note of the academic scholarship deadlines for the schools you are considering. If you are unsure of the scholarship deadline for a particular college or university, contact the admission representative from that school. Most schools require students to be admitted before considering them for an academic scholarship.

Community Events:

University of Montevallo ACT Prep Camp

January 20 or March 24 from 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM

The University of Montevallo is hosting an ACT camp for high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors that will equip students with test-taking strategies to prepare them for the ACT. The camp dates are January 20 or March 24 from 8:30 AM– 4:30 PM. The cost is $110 and includes lunch and a snack. These is a 20% scholarship available for financial assistance based on documented free or reduced lunch participants. For additional information, contact Marion Brown at . Bulldog Pharmacy Camp at Samford University

Application Deadline: February 1, 2018

McWhorter School of Pharmacy at Samford University is offering a one-week Pharmacy Camp this summer for high school students that are interested in investigating a career as a Pharmacist. We would like to invite your students to participate in this McWhorter School of Pharmacy Camp. During the week of pharmacy camp they will experience hands-on learning about health careers in pharmacy, participate in tours of local health care facilities and local pharmacies, participate in compounding activities and hands on demonstrations in the McWhorter School of Pharmacy science laboratory.Students who attend the camp will have the unique opportunity to spend time on the Samford campus and experience campus life with us, spend time with pharmacy professors, and have a lot of time to interact with other students also interested in careers in pharmacy. Bezos Scholar Program (Juniors Only)

Application Deadline: February 9, 2018

The Bezos Scholars Program inspires and challenges young people to act on their passions and collaborate to address community needs. Scholars are teams of rising high school seniors and educators who have demonstrated accomplishment, embraced new challenges, and aspire to lead change in their community. Scholars continue to pursue their passions after graduating, drawing inspiration and support from the Bezos Scholars Program and Scholar alumni network. Applicants must be available to participate in the program June 23-29, 2018 in Aspen, Colorado (all expenses paid for students who are selected to participate). Applicants must be a junior during the 17-18 school year, must demonstrate leadership, and must be enrolled in or have previously taken at least one AP class. 2018 Birmingham Alumni Network Scholarship to Georgia Tech

Deadline: January 25, 2018

Each year the local Birmingham Alumni Network offers a scholarship to an entering freshman to Georgia Tech. Each Applicant must complete an on-line application to the Georgia Tech Alumni Association on their website once the admission application has been made to Georgia Tech. This must be done no later thanJan 25, 2018. The review process consists of the application on the Alumni Association web site and an interview conducted by alumni in Birmingham in February. The ALFA Foundation Scholarship Program

Deadline: January 31, 2018

The Alfa Foundation is awarding 100 scholarships worth $1,000 to students attending an Alabama college, university, or technical school in fall 2018. Applications requirements include: minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale; enrolled or planning to enroll full-time in an accredited Alabama two-or four-year college, university or technical school for the entire 2018-19 academic year; have a current Alabama Farmers Federation membership issued in the name of the scholarship applicant. USDA/1890 National Scholars Program

Deadline: January 31, 2018

The goal of the USDA/1890 National Scholars Program is to increase the number of students studying agriculture, food, natural resource sciences, and other related disciplines. The program is open to high school seniors, rising college sophomores, and juniors who exhibit exemplary leadership traits and demonstrated community service. The Scholarship is highly competitive and provides for full tuition payment, among other benefits, for up to 4-years to selected students enrolled or accepted for enrollment at an 1890 Land-Grant University. Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen, have been accepted to an 1890 Land-Grant University, have a high school GPA of 3.0 or better and an ACT composite score of 21 or more (or SAT score of 1080 or more), and intend to study agriculture, food, natural resource sciences, or a related discipline. Hamilton, Hull, & Byrd Giving Back Scholarship ***NEW***

This scholarship will award $1,000 to the student who best demonstrates what their community service experience has meant and what giving back to their community means to them. Applicants must submit a resume’ and 750-word essay that provides a meaningful description of their experience in community service and what giving back to their community means to them. AL Association of School Office Personnel (AASOP) Scholarship (High School and AASOP Members)

Alabama Association of School Office Personnel will award up to four (4) $1,000 scholarships to students pursuing a degree from the college of business or K-12 education. Recipients will be notified no later than JUNE 30, 2018. Please see Mrs. New for application.

Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship ***NEW***

Deadline: February 1, 2018

This scholarship is for a graduating high school minority senior who plans to attend an accredited and approved 4 year institution. This student should show leadership potential, demonstrate dedication to community service, present evidence of financial need, and be a US citizen. University of North Alabama Academic Scholarships ***NEW***

Deadline: Extended to February 1, 2018

Due to inclement weather impacting the December ACT test, UNA is now accepting scholarship applications through February 1, 2018. The last ACT test they will accept for scholarship purposes will now be the February 10th test. Academic scholarships begin at 20 ACT and 3.0 GPA. Jacksonville State University Academic Scholarships

SCAD Challenge Scholarship

Your artistic vision could earn you the honor of being a SCAD Challenge scholarship recipient at The University for Creative Careers. The SCAD Challenge competition gives you the opportunity to submit your works of art to a panel of accomplished SCAD faculty. Entries must demonstrate creativity, innovation and a strong understanding of aesthetics. Let your design speak to your skill level and ability to handle university-level design assignments. Challenges are open to current juniors and seniors in high school as of the 2017-18 academic year. A panel of SCAD faculty will review and evaluate submitted entries, and three winners will be selected from each category. Regions Riding Forward Scholarship Contest ***NEW***

2018 Regions Riding Forward Scholarship Essay Contest – applications will be accepted through February 28. Winners will be announced over the summer. Prizes include (15) $5,000 awards for high school students with one school winner per state in the Regions footprint. Qualified Regions associates and family members are eligible to participate. Essays are judged by an independent panel of judges through Regions’ scholarship program vendor. Regions is not involved in the judging of the essays or selection of winners. Alabama National Guard Education Assistance Program (ANGEAP) *NEW*

An award used to be used for tuition and fees for Alabama National Guard members to attend a postsecondary educational institution in Alabama. Awards are limited to $5,080 per semester, and no more than $15,240 per year. This award is for students that are active members in good standing with a federally-recognized unit of the Alabama National Guard. Participants also may receive veteran’s benefits. Applications are available from Alabama National Guard units or visit their website www.ache.state.al.us Funds are limited, so apply early. Forms must be signed by a representative of the Alabama National Guard and a financial aid officer at the college or university the student plans to attend. See counselor for more details.

Jefferson State Community College Academic Scholarships***NEW***

Deadline: March 1, 2018

The 2018-2019 High School Academic Scholarship applications are now available online for current high school seniors. Thirty-five full tuition scholarships will be awarded to outstanding high school seniors that will enroll beginning Fall 2018. To be eligible, students must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher at the end of the first semester of their senior year; an ACT of 22 or higher, and US Citizenship or Permanent Residency Status. A completed application packet should include an application, a recommendation letter, a two-page essay, ACT scores, and a high school transcript.
