Important Announcement from Bishop Conlon, Fr.Peter and Catholic Charites

J. M. J

Dear Parishioners of St. Ann,

It is with great joy that I announce Catholic Charities, Diocese of Joliet’s intention to build 48 units ofaffordable housing for seniors. Bishop Conlon had spoken to me about this project and had reassured Bishop that I would support Catholic Charites of Joliet and our diocese, in this wonderful opportunity. The plan calls for 4 three-story buildings to be built representing 48 apartment homes. These apartment homes will be constructed in the vacant lot 3 of Town Center next to our parish.

The need for affordable housing is staggering, especially among the elderly living on fixed incomes. Providing affordable housing, which will provide comfort and care to many of our seniors living within our community, compliments both the mission of Catholic Charities and ours at St. Ann’s.

Our partner, Catholic Charities, has been an anchor in the communities of Will, DuPage, Grundy Iroquois, Kankakee, and Ford County for nearly 100 years, providing an array of programs designed to promote self-sufficiency, human dignity, and integrity for all people.

Catholic Charities hopes to empower the most vulnerable in our community to achieve what is necessary to live satisfying and productive lives. The senior residence development will bring affordable housing so critical to low-income seniors to the Channahon and Joliet area.

A proven leader in providing dynamic programming in the areas of housing, senior services, counseling and emergency assistance, Catholic Charities’ goal is to implement a model of affordable housing development where the residents can have direct access to Catholic Charities’ services whenever necessary.

Catholic Charities will assemble an experienced housing development team to work hand in hand with a strong and seasoned social services team. Catholic Charities is committed to making the senior residence a project of which Catholic Charities, St. Ann’s Parish, and the community of Channahon can be proud. St Ann is not at all financially responsible for this housing. We will welcome the residents into our faith community and reassure them of our service of care, hospitality and presence. Details of the project, please call Glenn Van Cura, Catholic Charites, Joliet

I know you will join me in welcoming the Senior Affordable Housing Units to our Channahon community. As there will be many ways in which you can support and volunteer at the housing units, I encourage you to become involved with Catholic Charities, Diocese of Joliet’s newest project. By doing so you will be answering the call of Pope Francis who tells us, “We must restore hope to young people, help the old, be open to the future, spread love and be poor among the poor.”

Blessings to all,

Fr. Peter Jarosz, Pastor
