Imperial County 4-H Livestock Meeting

May 14, 2008

At 7:05 President Carol George called the meeting to order, followed by the flag salute and the 4H pledge.

Roll Call was taken, 10 clubs were present.

Minutes from April 17, 2008 were reviewed, correction to page 8 “Alternate show start time for cavies and poultry each year, and “Jr. novice and Sr. Novice are to be placed before and separate from Jr. and Sr. Showmanship.” No other corrections were noted.

Question again to Charlie if beef weights were official, Holstein weight 1050 – 1450, all other beef steers 1050 – 1400, yes this is official, will be discussed by the fair board.

New recommendations listed on the minutes of April 17 2008 were approved. (They are lengthy to repeat again)

Number of livestock meetings to be held for 2008-09 was discussed and nothing was changed.

State Livestock meeting in Sacramento report – Carol George attending and quality assurance issues may make record keeping for feed and medication mandatory for market livestock.

Foundation report was presented by Briana Larios – Work is approved for shade on south side of the calf barn, electrical will be upgraded in the beef/dairy barn, they will check into purchasing a small animal scale, estimates will be requested for cost of locating poultry barn on the south side of rabbit barn, estimated that the Foundation will spend 38 – 40 thousand dollars this year on the improvements.

4-H advisor report – all 4H enrolment will be done on line this year.

Request for all exhibitors to cash the checks for livestock sales and fair premiums are requested by Charlie Borchard.

Meeting on summer camp will be held on Monday May 19, 2008 6:30 pm at the Rose School, camp will be held July 11, 12, & 13, 2008.

Deadline for All Star application is May 21, 2008

Calendar planning will be held June 5, 2008 for the 2008-2009 year.
