Four parts of the Biosphere Challenge

1) Each pupil documents and describes his or her favourite place. The selected location should be outdoors and it should be A PLACE FULL OF LIFE.
2) The pupils vote for afavourite place that will be submitted to the Biosphere Challenge.
3) Agree on a good motivation. Why did the class choose this location?

4) Submit your entry.

You may check these boxes to keep you on track:

1.Document and describe the location individually

2.Vote for your final Challenge entry

3.Agree on a motivation

1. Let each pupil document and describe his or her favourite place in your Biosphere Reserve
- The individual documentations are not to be submitted to the Challenge but for your class to consider.

Some guidelines for your work:

•Begin by thinking about the rules that would be suitable for your class. Do you use iPads, mobile phones, cameras or drawings to document the location? Perhaps all tools are allowed? Will you do research about the location or will you document what you already know? Or all of the above?

•When should the documentation be carried out? During class time or is it a good homework assignment?

•Where should the location be? Close to the school, close to the pupil’s home, or anywhere in the biosphere reserve?

•Discuss with the pupils the term A PLACE FULL OF LIFE and what it means to them. Is it where there are flowers and ladybugs or can it be a place outdoors without animals and plants, but where it is perfect for any kind of sports practice - another kind of life?

Each pupil documents their favourite place

Use the tools you agreed on in your class. The documentation can be any kind of image.

Each pupil describes theirfavourite place

What do you see/hear/feel/experience when you are in this location?

Example 1: My favouriteplace is the meadow outside our house. In the meadow there are many different flowers that smell good... It's buzzing around me when I'm in the meadow... It is calm and nice to lie on the meadow. I fall asleep often.

Example 2: My favourite place isLäckö Castle. The castle is far out on an island called Kållandsö. I often think of everyone who lived in the castle as I walk around in the court yard. Sometimes when it's dark I'm a little scared in an exciting way.

What characterizes life on the location?

The pupil may describe what kind of life it sees on the location - or - what kind of life it usually is in this magical place when he / she likes it best.

Example 1: There are lots of insects and birds. I've even seen a hedgehog once!

Example 2: I have chosen a soccer field and almost every day there are teams that practice here. There is also real grass on the field (not artificial grass). I think there are worms in the ground that the birds pick to eat.

Is there a story about the favourite place?

Here you and the class may decide if the pupils will talk about what they know about the place OR if the pupilswill do research about the place. OR perhaps both options are good.

Example 1: I do not know, the meadow has always been there ... for what I know.

Example 2: I have read that the castle was an old fortress at first. Not a knight's castle but still ... Another story is that my mom and dad got married in the chapel by the castle when I was little.

2.Describe how the class selected one favourite place to submit to the Challenge
