Time Line Tips: Staying Organized

Plan first. The more carefully you plan, the easier it will be to create the time line.

  • After reviewing information in your textbook, list important rulers, events, and achievements of each dynasty.
  • Remember, you will not have space to include every person, event, and achievement on your time line. Review your list and mark the fivetopics that are most important to include.
  • If necessary, conduct additional research on the most important topics you identified. Use this time to locate online images, too.
  • Review your list to check for chronological order. If necessary, renumber events to reflect the order in which they occurred.
  • Sketch your time line in pencil first.
  • Mark the places where you will include illustrations or images from research sources.
  • Before continuing, check to make sure you have enough space. You may need to adjust your plan slightly at this point.
  • Once your plan is final, proceed to create your time line.
  • After your time line is completed, double-check to see that you have included all necessary information and that all of the information is correct.

Points / Research and Completeness / Organization and Writing / Illustrations and Images
