COMMENTS/SUGGESTIONS:

A special thank you to all the board members who attended and continually support the juniors. Special thanks to Bev Henderson for her return to help. Special recognition goes to Mary Robson, registration, Mary Boehm, assistant chair; Carla Sloan, rules; Sue Young and Suzanne Younger for always assisting and hosting at Sue’s house; and those on duty who assisted players, closed gaps and helped provide a positive competitive atmosphere for players and spectators.

A special thank you to Janice Kimpel for arrangements and delivery of the drapery partition and setup in the clubhouse. Made our setting more private for tournament needs.

The tournament ran smoothly with so much support from parents and players and extraordinary assistance from Mike Wallner and the staff.

The course markings and tee marker placements were confirmed with the course superintendent before play. Due to heavy rain in June, it was necessary to mark GUR in some large areas.

The speed of play was exceptional with both sides of play complete within a few minutes of each other on both days.

The quality of low scoring players continues. For the first time 17 players scored under 80 making up the championship flight.

The field of play showed several very good younger players. Note: the Champion, Gaur Roshannah from Hinsdale, age 14, just completing her Freshman year in High School.

Parents and award winners stayed for the award presentations. Computer results were delivered in a timely fashion.

New artwork was generated on each of the award plaques showing hole #12 of the U.of.I. course. Photos were taken in 2014 by Pam Keeling.

A special thank you to Sandy Rice for reformatting and sending the results to the AJGA Performance Based Entry and the Junior Golf Scoreboard.

Please to report the AJGA has greatly increased recognition to our tournament top players, recognizing BPE exempt star status to the top 3 and star points to an additional 12. Formerly, recognition went to only the top three players.

All Junior contestants received an addressed personal notice and invitation as a reminder to apply for the Dodd’s Award scholarship, given at the starter’s table on Day 2.

Sign posted on scoreboard noting scores posted “unofficial” until verified by the computer.

RECOMMENDATIONS AND DISCUSSION

Tournament dates for 2016 will be August 2-3, confirmed with Mike Wallner, U of I

Golf Course Director of Golf.

Restructure and update Jr.Tournament guidelines to include responsibilities for three positions namely; the Chair, Assistant, and Registration Chair/Result Reporting.

ITEMS TO BE DISCUSSED

To help promote the team concept and match play as played in the Solheim Cup and the NCAA national tournament, USGA Jr Championship, Women’s Western Junior, discuss trying a voluntary trial on the Monday, practice round day. (Janice Kimpel brought this to my attention and agree to discuss with the board)

ITEMS THAT NEED ACTION

Have contestants keep all 3 scores in each threesome.

Approve continuing to order and install the curtain divider in the clubhouse.

The reality still exists with the juniors, the continual number of player withdrawals that requires much work and feedback to those contestants. While in all the years past those on the waiting list did have the chance to play in the tournament, notifying several at the last minute is still an effort. We still need to acknowledge our players continue to be the best, high scores fewer and fewer. Since the time commitment by the registration chair for the junior tournament withdrawals and last minute entries, do we need to recommend a registration chair separate for the Junior tournament? For the last several years we have exceeded the number of applicants beyond the required 84 maximum but by the time the tournament begins we are below 84 including all those accepted on the wait list.

Respectfully submitted

Jan Fuller
