The overall result of the 42ndedition of FILO

The 42nd edition of FILO, the International salon of yarns and fibres, closed today in a positive climate. The theme “the perpetual motion of innovation”, the ideal leitmotiv of this FILO edition from the Trend Area to the brief opening round table at Filo Happening on Wednesday 8 October, was best illustrated in the stands of the companies which proposed top quality yarn collections, the result of a constant technical and stylistic research.

At the opening of FILO Happening,Marilena Bolli, President of Unione Industriale Biellese, reminded that “Innovation is a continuous processinvolving not only the products since it starts from our companies, the organizational process, the way to approach markets, and results in innovative governance and mentality, because it’s necessary to learn how to join forces and work together. On the other hand, we do hope the Country acknowledges the importance of rewarding those companies that continued to invest in innovation even in difficult times. And it shall do so by taking structural measures, like the tax credit, which should consider the resources devoted to innovation as an investment rather than a cost”.

Paolo Monfermoso, FILO manager, takes stock of the two-day fair: “We are satisfied with the performance of the autumn edition. Also the views expressed by exhibitors during these two days confirm the presence of an increasingly qualified buyer at FILO, who knows very well what he’s looking for, being aware that at FILO hewill find the solutions responding his needs. This result well reflects the characteristics of FILO: a unique event at International level, whose watchwords are concreteness and professionalism in the first place. Therefore, it addresses and attracts very high quality companies, the excellence of yarn producers in Italy and in Europe. With regard to the event, FILOcontinues to invest in improving the services offered to visitors and exhibitors. In line with the imprint of a two-day business to businessexhibition, we aim at helping to bring together demand and supply of yarns; an example is the FILOSpot service, successfully launched in this edition. These are objectives that we pursue not only at the fair, but throughout the year: the many initiatives, from FILONewsLetter to the restyled website enable us to maintain a constant and open dialogue with companies, visitors and press. As for the foreign markets, FILO is continuing its collaboration with the Ice Agency that allows to host International buyers and journalists. The 42nd edition of FILO also provides an “after salon” visit to the Biellese territory for a delegation of International journalists. The initiative is promoted in collaboration with Piemonte Textile Excellence, the integrated supply chain project (Pif) managed by Ceipiemonte on behalf of Regione Piemonte, Unioncamere Piemonte and Piemonte and Valle d’Aosta Chambers of Commerce. After FILO, the delegation will visit a selection of companies of the Biellese textile district for an “Educational Day”. As happened with the Educational Day organised by FILO last year for Italian journalists, the aim of the project is to show the International press (and therefore, the consumers of the respective countries) the activities of the various links in the made in italy textile industry and the benefits of having all the processing steps from yarn to garment in the space of a few kilometres”.

The satisfaction with the work done during this FILO edition of 8-9 October, is echoed in the words of exhibitors.

Nicoletta Meriglio ofBotto Poala “We are satisfied with the performance of FILO two days, above all in the second day we were visited by buyers with clear ideas and well aware of the proposals offered by a company like ours. FILO has a well-defined character which has been re-confirmed in this edition”.

Vincenzo Caneparo ofDavifilis satisfied“FILO confirms its position as a very high quality exhibition. In particular, the buyers appreciated natural yarns, a consolidated trend which is a sign of an increased attention to the quality of products and environmentally sustainable productions. The sector of yarns has, in general, recorded a good trend in the first half of the year, in the hope this may be further consolidated and not frustrated by decisions taken by the government”.

Mariarosa Dissegna of Marchi e Fildi underlines that “in this edition we saw a greater flow of visitors in the second day, maybe because some buyers preferred to avoid any inconvenience due to the European summit. On the other hand, our company favours a service based both on constant product research and on a meticulous organization of technical and commercial structures for the customer’s total satisfaction”.

Positive comments also from Angelo Della Porta ofPozzi Electa: “We recorded a large attendance of buyers because at FILO we always receive many customers interested in viewing the novelties of our proposals. This edition, we “dared” with yarns which will be the base to produce sumptuous textiles,we brought non homogeneous contents and materials that change in aspect according to the yarn count and processes. Micro patterns which create special effects and enable the customer to produce a unique, almost tailored-made fabric”.

Cesare Savio of Safilstarts by mentioning that “this year our company celebrates 60 years in business and we decided to commemorate the event at FILO, together with our customers. It must also be added that, in the climate of uncertainty characterising the sector, the buyers reward only those companies that invest a lot in research, technology and development of new products”.

Giovanni Tessari ofLurex reports “a good and constant flow of visitors during the two days: the outcome for us is decidedly positive. Even more so as the fashion trend calls for metalized yarns and this favours us. In particular, we have taken part in FILO for many years and here we have the opportunity to meet our Italian customers who know how to appreciate the very high quality of our product”.

Alberto Enoch ofServizi e Setaunderlines “the positive outcome of the two-day fair: we worked hard with a large flow of visitors, especially Italian. There are still few international visitors but this is more due to the foreign buyers rather than to FILO fair. As for us, the summer time is our peak season, opaque silks confirmed their success. As well as linen blended with wet dyed natural fibres (mainly silk and wool), available in raw and melange. For the production of linen yarns, we made a considerable investment in a joint venture becoming the owner of a plant in China”.

Daniele Arioldi ofI cotoni di Albinitakes a positive view of “the first” time of his company as exhibitor: “we know FILO very well, as we have attended it as visitors for many years. Our first experience as exhibitor proved the very high level of visitors at FILO, who showed great interest in our top-end product”.

Roberto Rimoldi of Filatura Luisaexpresses his satisfaction: “We had a slightly larger number of visitors compared to the last autumn edition. A good success considering that we are primarily wool spinners, and summer is notour season. The buyers appreciated our novelties: yarns with Lurex effects in very fine counts”.

Roberto Barbavara of Vimarreports “a larger attendance of customers in the second day of FILO. We have also noticed that the space for summer yarn collections tends to shrink, which involves a production reorganization on the part of companies”.

The 43rdedition of FILO will be held as usual at the Le Stelline Congress Centre in Milano between 18 and 19 March 2015.
