December 6, 2017 PTP Minutes

1. Family Night Out (FNO) - the October FNO with Potomac Pizza raised $118.96 for CYC. The next one is Mon, Dec 18 at Jason's Deli starting at 5pm. Please RSVP online by Fri, Dec 15 if you plan to attend. FNO in February will be at Franklin's in Hyattsville (date still TBD) and on Mon, March 5 we will do another FNO with Potomac Pizza.

If you have ideas for other local restaurants that you would like to see offered, please email those thoughts to Blessing Enekwe at .

2. Silent Auction - this is the biggest fundraiser for the CYC and one we need all families to support! The date is currently set for Sat, April 21 and the time is still TBD. Be on the lookout for emails soon requesting volunteer assistance and please consider any gifts you can donate for the auction.

3. Mr. M gave an update about upcoming events, but he was quicker to get an email out than I was, so see his email from yesterday. The children really enjoy the Winter Family Sing-Along which will happen on Tues, Dec 19 @ 4pm.

4. International Picnic - thank you to those who attended and provided a dish! If you have any feedback for ways to improve it, please email those thoughts to Ying Li at .

5. Book Fair - starts today! Runs from Fri, Dec 8 to Fri, Dec 15. Hours are 8am-9:30am, 12pm-1pm and 3pm-5pm. Another big fundraiser for the CYC, so please consider supporting. Volunteer slots were still available as of the meeting night and families can earn 1 service point for every hours they volunteer.

6. Service Points - be sure to write down the points you've earned in the dedicated book in the Green Room so you get credit! I'm honestly not sure where this book is kept, but I'm sure you could ask the teachers and they would point it out.

7. Snow - reminder that the CYC follows the PG County school system for all delays and closures. Check local TV listings, the CYC Facebook page, call the CYC phone number and listen to the voicemail or check your email for updates.

8. Morning & Afternoon Gathering discussion - Mona Leigh talked about this a bit at the meeting and took questions from parents. Many in the room said they understood the need and had no problem with that aspect but were more concerned about the lack of flexibility. Mona Leigh said people are welcome to meet with her and talk more about their concerns but she didn't think anything would be changing for the upcoming 2018 - 2019 school year but that maybe they could consider changing the following year based on feedback. Reach out to her if you're interested.

9. Next PTP Meeting is Wed, Feb 21 at 5:45pm

10. End of Year Gift for Teachers - THANK YOU to everyone who has stopped by to sign the cards for Mrs. Fowler and Mrs. Person so far. I last collected money from the envelope on Wednesday, right before the meeting, and at that time we had $100 total, which is $50 per teacher. I'd love to see that amount increase so we're able to give each teacher a total of $200, consistent with what has been typical in the past. I will leave the envelope with Jennifer through next Fri, Dec 15 and will put together our gift for the teachers that weekend. Also, please remember this is just for the 2 teachers. If you want to do anything for Mrs. Wiest or Mrs. Gonzalez, please feel free to do so.
