PG&E Rate Hikes – Talking Points

In its upcoming General Rate Case at the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), P&GE is asking for a $4 billion rate increase. You can sign in to speak at the Public Participation Hearing:

Let the CPUC know how higher electric bills will affect your family, your business, and your community. Share your opinions on PG&E smart meters, multi-million dollar salaries, and Prop 16 spending.

Share a personal story aboutwhy you feel the CPUC should not approve a rate hike.

  • Are you living on a fixed income
  • Have you been recently unemployed and unable to find work
  • Are your current electric bills already more than you can afford
  • Does it impact your ability to pay your rent, mortgage or to buy food or medicine

PG&E’s rates are already:

  • Higher than public utilities
  • Higher than almost all electric utilities in California
  • Higher than almost all electric utilities in the United States
  • PG&E has an additional $2 billion in rate hikes pending at the CPUC.

Corporate excesses drive high P&GE rates:

PG&E wastes customer’s money

  • PG&E’s CEO Peter Darbee received $9.4 million in pay last year.
  • Dumb smart meters have cost customers over $2 billion
  • Millions spent on lobbying and purchasing political influence.

PG&E invests the money it gets from its customers in trying to keep customers captive:

  • Spent $10 million on misinformation campaign to defeat Prop H in San Francisco.
  • Spent $12 million on misinformation campaign to defeat SMUD Yolo County annexation.
  • PG&E has already spent $44 million on its constitutional powergrab, Prop 16.
  • Every dime spent by PG&E comes out of customer’s’ pockets.
