POWERPOINT 2007 FOR BEGINNERS

Most tasks are carried out from the Ribbon. Selecting the tabs (Home, Insert etc) will reveal further options.

MASTER

If you will have a repeating theme throughout your presentation e.g. specific fonts or a logo it is best to add these to a Slide Master.

Select theViewtab andclick the Slide Masterbutton

To add a logo select the Inserttaband click Find the image.

Resize and position it if necessary.

To return to your slides click Close Master View

PICTURES

When you insert a picture, click once on the image and the Picture Tools tab becomes available allowing you to make many changes to the image.

TIP a very useful option is the Compress Pictures button. Select your image and press this button. Choose options to choose an appropriate compression setting

TEXT

To select a preset layout for your page, with the Home tab selected click the layout button and choose one of the options

There are numerous different layouts you can choose

Each slide can be different

You can ignore these change them or create your own layout at any time

Once you have chosen a layout for slide 1 enter the text.

Add a new slide by clicking the New Slide button, choose a layout and enter the text. Do this for your entire presentation.

SAVE THE DOCUMENT REGULARLY!

SLIDE DESIGN

EITHERuse a preset Design Template

Select the Design tab and choose a design.

The one you choose will be applied to all slides.

OR You can create your own design. With the Design tab selected click Background Styles

To Colour the slide choose one of the colours offered or Format Background

And try the options offered.

To insert a picture click the Picture or texture fill option click File and search for your image

Select Close so that the new background is only applied to the current slide or Apply to all so it appears on every slide in the presentation.

SLIDE TRANSITION

Select the Animations tab

Choose a transition and adjust settings as required

TEXT ANIMATION

Make sure your cursor is in the text box you want to animate.

Select the Animations tab

EITHER click the No Animation dropdown and select an animation option

ORClick Custom Animation which reveals the Task Pane..

On the Task Pane Select Custom Animation

Select Add Effect .move the cursor over Entrance and choose an effect. (you can also apply Exit and other effects)

Once applied you can change various options such as speed and whether the effect happens when you click or automatically.

SPEAKER NOTES

It is a good idea when giving a presentation to provide notes for your audience and for yourself as a prompt.

Click in the notes pane below the main slide pane and type your text.

By clicking the Viewtab then selecting Notes Page you can see what a printout of notes pages will look like.

PRINTING

Click the Office Buttonand select Print

Click the Print What window.

Choose Notes Pages

from the optionsgiven.

Selecting Slides will print out each slide full page.

Outline View just prints the text of each slide in sequence but NOT the notes.

Another useful option is to choose Handouts. This allows you to choose several different ways to printout the slides by specifying the number of slides per page;

1 Slides per page 2 Slides per page 3 Slides per page

4 Slides per page 6 Slides per page 9 Slides per page

Once you have chosen how you want your printout to look you can Preview the print first to check it is ok. Then click Print.
