Minutes:

Attendees were Doug Logan, Ahmed Zobaa, Joe Koepfinger, Jim McConnach, Stan Klein, and Phil Hopkinson. A more extensive membership list is attached..

Chairman, Doug Logan, called the meeting to order at approximately 10:00 am EST.

  1. Introductions
  1. Secretary: Dr. Ahmed Zobaa, the official PDCC Secretary is still suffering with phone maladies. In his absence, Phil Hopkinson acted as backup Secretary, and did his best to take minutes.
  2. Minutes: from June 9, 2004 reviewed, revised and accepted. The membership list will be updated.
  3. Energy & Environment Policy Statement:
  4. Discussion of purpose addressing environmental issues
  5. Discussion of fossil depletion
  6. Motion made and passed to distribute it to relevant technical committees for review and comment
  7. Plan to ask Fernando Alvarado to share this with the EPC, informally, as he sees fit.
  8. Delete references to background materials.
  9. Ahmed to send to relevant technical committees & ask Fernando to deal with EPC.
  10. Wind & Photovoltaic Policy Statement
  11. Needs a lot of work.
  12. Needs updating.
  13. Need to address Solar thermal
  14. Rename PV Statement to “Solar Power” and include solar thermal
  15. Should address space requirements.
  16. White Paper On Blackouts:
  17. Jim McConnach drafted comments
  18. Ahmed Zobaa will send to PSDC Oct 28, and will send e-mail message asking PDCC members to domment on Jim’s comments.
  19. BPL(Broadband over Power Lines) Not Gigabit
  20. Stan Klein indicates that a White Paper is coming in January.
  21. IEEE CCIP on Information Policy is focusing on Gigabit and will lay out the issues.
  22. Policy decisions on hold pending White Paper.
  23. The PDCC should also be on hold.
  24. FCC made a mistake according to Stan.
  25. Coordination with the Energy Policy Committee of IEEE USA:
  26. We will feel our way on this one.
  27. EPC has a draft statement.
  28. Must consider environmental issues.
  29. E-mail List Of PDCC Members: Ahmed maintains a list of the active PDCC members and it is posted on the website.
  30. Next Meeting: January 6 at 11:00 EST.
  31. Adjourn at 12:30 pm EST.
