Major Design Project Proposal
Identification of the Need
a. Motivation
As part of my HSC I am currently studying Visual Arts, Information Processes & Technology and Design & Technology. I propose to marry my interests in Art, the skills I have learnt in IPT and the knowledge I have gained in Design and Technology to produce my Major Design Project.
Throughout both of these courses it is a requirement that a management folio or diary be kept and presented for marking. I have a notion that many students studying these senior courses in NSW would be in a similar situation and would benefit from a suitable multimedia resource to guide them through this time consuming and difficult component of these courses.
Computer based training (CBT) with the integrated use of multimedia is becoming increasingly popular as a means of delivering course content. Interactivity of a computer based training (CBT) program is the prime design element that allows an individual to progress through such a program with confidence. It is a fact that multimedia products are judged on the quality of their interactivity.
b. Purpose
The purpose for creating this multimedia resource is to assist future Visual Arts, Design and Technology and Industrial Technology HSC students, whilst at the same time attempting to produce and market a multimedia product.
My research will hopefully lead me to facts and views that establish there is a need and a market for this type of multimedia product.
c. Target Audience/Market
The target market will be aimed at the teachers and Heads of Departments of NSW schools where HSC students are participating in the subjects of Visual Art, Design & Technology and Industrial Technology.
d. How will the Intended project be used?
The intended user – students, will use my multimedia resource by interacting with the documents to assist in the planning and management of their respective major practical project and/or body of art works. My product will provide outlines, templates, layouts and hints on how to approach the appropriate documentation for each stage of the major practical project and/or body of artwork.
e. Intention to meet the needs of the user
I intend to design, create, publish and market a multimedia resource that will meet the needs of NSW HSC students studying Visual Arts, Design & Technology and Industrial Technology.
As a current student in his senior years of secondary schooling, I have a clear appreciation of the shear volume of content and learning required and the increased time pressures it places on the individual studying for the NSW HSC.
My intention is to assist students to manage these pressures and make it easier to plan, manage and document the design and production of their major practical project and/or body of artworks.
