Iden Green Tennis Club
Minutes of committee meeting held on at 6.30pm Tuesday 13th January
At Watemill House, Mill Street
Apologies were received from Rachel Michell who is unwell and Rohan Barnett who is out of the country on business.
Those present were-
Kent Barker (chair), Penny Barr (treasurer), Penny Cunningham, Sheila Hume (membership secretary), Amanda Petch (junior secretary)
Adrian Stevenson (tournament secretary), John Stoughton (social secretary)
Donal Brady (secretary).
Emails received
Kent asked Donal to report on emails form the LTA and other tennis concerns. The club profile required by the LTA is almost complete and will be despatched in a day or two. All other emails received were of no consequence. Kent asked for any important emails to be forwarded to him.
Membership Renewal
I was confirmed that Rohan had sent off the renewal form with an extra clause highlighting that members can pay directly into the club’s bank account using their post code as a reference.
Junior Club Sweaters
Amanda Petch reported that nearly all the money had been received from parents for the cost of the junior club ‘hoody’ sweaters and a balance of expended funds is expected in due course.
Coaching
Adult coaching does not have many followers. Eight members agreed to have coaching for the last season but only about four turned up regularly. It was decided. It was decided include a paragraph in the newsletter before the AGM asking if members require mid-week coaching and coaching generally, suggesting that responses should be received before the AGM. Since the club courts are tied up during the summer evenings with various pre-arranged groups the committee wondered if members with private courts would be willing to allow their courts to be used for the purpose of coaching.
Treasurer’s Report
Penny Barr said that the money situation is healthy at the moment and all bills have been settled to date. She said it is a pity that the club’s funds are not earning interest and she said she would speak to the bank about the best possible rates available at the moment. Kent thought it would be worth while enquiring about interest rates at the post office.
Penny presented the form for committee members’ signatures to be added for cheque signing, stating that it was a bit difficult to follow. Kenttook on the task of deciphering it.
Social Secretary
John Stoughton reported that the Christmas party was a success and that all the costs had been met and that we have £215.00 as a surplus. He felt that ‘hard copy invitations’ was a good method of encouraging members to attend and that this method should be repeated. The committee agreed.
Sheila Hume thought that we should have more new membership gatherings and Kent asked Sheila and John to form a sub-committee for the purpose of organising these.
Amanda said that she is organising a junior tournament in May.
It was thought that a disco in Benenden hall in the spring could be successful. Sheila mentioned that she knows a DJ that would be willing to attend.
Tournaments
Adrian Stevenson reported that the mixed doubles had been won by Penny Cunningham and Dick Mohr. It was agreed that the trophy would be presented at the AGM.
The remaining tournaments are moving slowly.Adrian will cajole the men to get on with their matches in an effort to have results by the AGM.
Penny is dealing with the ladies matches. Results will be posted in the pavilion shortly and trophies will be presented at the AGM.
Other Matters
Amanda requested that a map be put on the web page to assist parents in finding the club location.
Penny suggested that it might be worthwhile setting up meetings with members of other local clubs to discuss the question of Wimbledon ticket allocations.
Next Meeting
The next meeting will be the AGM and it will be on February 28th. 2009 at 5.30pm in the Iden Green Pavilion.
The meeting closed at approximately 8.30pm.
