Idaho Voices for Children and the Idaho Center for Fiscal Policy are seeking aDevelopment Assistant through the AmeriCorps VISTA program

Join Idaho Voices for Children and the Idaho Center for Fiscal Policy to work in two state-level public policy organizations focusing on important issues in Idaho ranging from children’s and family policy, education, health care and public investment. This role is fundamental to helping us build capacity through fundraising, donor communication and community outreach. The AmeriCorps VISTA program is the domestic equivalent to the Peace Corps. Not only will you serve to help move Idahoans out of poverty and into better policy; you will also become part of a national network of service members that have been eradicating poverty since the 1960’s

VISTA Member Commitment:

  • Serve on a full-time basis (40 hour/week) for at least one year(Service dates: February 27, 2017– February 26, 2017, subject to change)
  • Attend Pre-service Orientation in Los Angeles, CA (February 27 – March 2, 2017), all expenses covered
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and a U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. resident
  • May take limited college courses or have a part-time job while volunteering

VISTA Member Benefits:

  • Monthly living allowance ($973 gross)
  • Health care benefits/ Personal and sick leave
  • Childcare benefits (based on household income eligibility)
  • Educational award ($5745 –may be used to pay student loans or for tuition)or stipend ($1500) at the end of service
  • Student loan payments may be deferred during service
  • Relocation expenses up to $500 are available for those who must travel more than 50 miles to assigned site, up to $1000 for mileage reimbursement.
  • 1 year of federal non-competitive eligibility status at end of service

Minimum Requirements:

  • Experience with computer programs (e-mail, Microsoft Word and Excel, Google Docs)
  • Experience and enjoyment working with the public and an advisory board
  • Experience working in a professional setting
  • Candidates must have a strong work ethic – punctual, self-motivated, trustworthy and reliable
  • Candidates must be able to write well (email correspondence, tutorials, online content, and weekly reports will be written by VISTAs )
  • Ability to work independently and with a team

Additional Experience or attributes that are a plus but not required:

  • Experience with development, grant writing, and donor databases
  • Experience scheduling, planning and executing education and fundraising events
  • Experience with mass and segmented mailing targeted at donors
  • Experience with social media outreach and content creation

Training will be provided to understand the overall work and goals of Idaho Voices for Children and the Idaho Center for Fiscal Policy. Previous AmeriCorps VISTAs have also created tutorial and resources to help new VISTA team members learn the ropes.
