Why You Should Attend

You need to attend this Craft Examination if you are going to be required to carry out Live Jointing to extend LV mains cables (CNE and PILC) that will be or could in future be connected to the UK Power Networks low voltage network.

Outline

The assessment is intended to verify that you are able to carry out the duties of an LV Jointer working on Live CNE / PILC LV main cables and associated equipment in a safe and responsible manner.Be able to demonstrate you understand how and when to intervene to ensure that any person you may be assisting remains safe at all times. To ensure all of the equipment that is installed on to the network meets the required quality, ensuring that the equipment will function correctly throughout its expected useful life and not cause detriment to the distribution Network. The Company that will be putting you to work has the responsibility of training and assessing you for competency and to see that you have a Safe System of work. (Safety rules etc)

What The DaysCover

During the assessment you will be asked carry out a combination of tasks from the elements below. The tasks set will be randomly taken from our jointing manual that will give us an overview of your ability.

PILC / Waveform cable jointing

All associated tests with the jointing of the above

Underpinning knowledge questions may be asked

A Question paper of multi choice and written answers to be completed

Length & Location

This assessmentlasts for twoday. It will be held at either of our training centre in Sundridge or Bury St Edmunds or at a facility that can meet the requirements necessary.

About You

For you to attend you must have had the relevant training on how to install equipment and materials currently used on UK Power Network and to work safely in the proximity of Live LV Cables. A minimum of 6 months experience of working on Paper Insulated lead covered Cables (PILC), and Combined Neutral Earth Cables (CNE) at low voltage is required

You will be required to provide evidence of First Aid Training, Craft skills Training and your NERSPassport.

In order for you to participate at this event, youmust bring the following items of PPE with you: Flame Retardant Coveralls, Safety Footwear, Cable Stripping Gloves, LV Gloves and Protective Eyewear (Safety Glasses or Goggles). If you do not bring them, then you will not be able to participate. You also need to be physically fit.
