Proceedings of Inaugural Functionof International Certificate Course on “Requisites of Seed Production, Processing and Quality Assurance” for Nigerians

The six months international certificate course on “Requisites of Seed Production, Processing and Quality Assurance” for eight Nigerian nationals was inaugurated at ICAR-Directorate of Seed Research, Regional Station, Bengaluru. The training programme commenced on 20th July 2015 at ICAR-DSR, Regional Station, Bengaluru. The inaugural ceremony of training programme was gracedby Dr. H. Shivanna, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, UAS Bengaluru (UASB) as chief guest; Dr. M.A. Shankar, Director of Research, UASB; Dr. D.P. Kumar, Director of Education, UASB; Dr. N. Krishnamurthy, Dean of Post Graduate Studies, UASB as guest of honour’s; Dr. S. Rajendra Prasad, Project Director, ICAR-DSR, Mau and Dr. Rame Gowda, Special Officer (Seeds), UASB. Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Project Director, ICAR-DSR, Mau briefed about the training programme and welcomed the gathering. Programme was formally inaugurated by lightening the lamp by all distinguished guests and honour was accompanied by the participants.

Guest of honour Dr. M.A. Shankar in his remarks highlighted upon available natural resources and similarity in agro-climatic regions between two countries and stressed upon more bilateral and Material Transfer Agreements for sharing of available germplasm and improved varieties and hybrids in varied crops. Dr. D.P. Kumar and Dr. N. Krishnamurthy welcomed the participants and congratulated the Project Director, ICAR-DSR, Mau for organizing such training programme for imparting available proficiency in seed sector to African countries and promised of extending all possible help for success of training programme. The chief guest, Dr. H. Shivanna, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, UAS Bengaluru welcomed the participants and emphasized on various means of strengthening of seed sector in Nigeria, also highlighted about possible role of Indian seed segment in building sound seed supply chain in Nigeria and further noted that, such capacity building programmes will be stepping stones for achieving seed security in Nigeria.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Rame Gowda, Special Officer (Seeds), UASB. The inaugural programme was attended by all facilitators of training programme from ICAR-DSR, Mau and staffs from National Seed Project and Department of Seed Science and Technology, UAS, Bengaluru.
