About IBG…
IBG is a German non-profit organisation founded in 1965. Our aims are to promote international understanding and to facilitate and organise voluntary work while coordinating closely with our local partners.
IBG is a registered charity and does not have a political, religious or institutional affiliation. IBG receives funds from the European Union and from the German Ministry for Youth. We mainly organize workcamps in Germany.
ABOUT OUR WORKCAMPS...
Age limit: 18+ years old (exceptions for volunteers aged 30 or over can be made)
Camp language: English is the camp language in most IBG camps. It is important
that volunteers speak at least basic English. If the camp language is not
English, a special mention is made in the project description.
The work: Usually volunteers will work about 30 hours a week (for example six
hours a day about five days a week). Exceptions are mentioned in the
descriptions and are made according to the needs of the project.
Accommodation: will be in schools, gyms, youth centres, scouts huts or something
similar. In general there are basic conditions but all facilities like kitchen, toilets and showers are available. If not, it is mentioned in the description.
Campleaders: Usually our camps have one or two campleaders who will support the
organisation of free time activities, keep an account for the money for lodging and excursions as well as provide some support to group processes in the project. Apart from these responsibilities they are volunteers like the others.
Food: In most workcamps, preparing meals is self-organised by the members in most camps. Usually everyone will take turns cooking.
Contact with the local population: Establishing contact with the local population is one big aim of IBG. Of course the level and intensity of local contact depends entirely on the possibilities and cannot be forced, nevertheless volunteers should be open for contact to the local population.
Insurance: All relevant insurance (personal accident, illness, third liability) is provided only within the official camp dates. EU volunteers are not insured against illness, that´s why they have to bring the European Health Card (former E111). We strongly recommend (non-EU) volunteers who plan to travel beyond these dates to bring their own insurance. More information can be found in our Infosheet.
Official invitations: Probably embassies will ask for an addition of the paragraphs 66-68 to our official invitations (“Kosten für Rueckbefoerderung und Lebensunterhalt”). As in the past we would like to stress that IBG is not able to meet the conditions mentioned therein and that we can not add these paragraphs to our official invitations.
Volunteers with special needs: International workcamps should be open to everyone. If you have volunteers who need individual support to join a workcamp (more information, special support during the camp...) please contact us. We will do our best to find a way to host them.
Accessing workcamps: All our workcamps are open and accessible for volunteers with fewer opportunities, according to the special needs and interests of the volunteers. We consider workcamps

IBG 01 Johannesberg (Bavaria) 15.04. – 05.05.2012 RENO / ENVI 15 vols
PROJECT: Johannesberg is a small community in Bavaria and they are going to invite a workcamp for the first time. The local partner is the "St. Johannesbergverein", an association which was founded in 1916 to promote social and charitable functions among Christian aspects. Nowadays they are running a nursery, a children´s house for school children and they are also planning to open a „Mehrgenerationenhaus“, which will be a social and culture centre for young and old. The association is looking forward to have an international group of volunteers to help them with the implementation of some of ideas and needs.
WORK: There will be three main tasks during the three weeks stay. The first task will be to rebuild the garden of the children´s house. They have already planed an action on the first weekend of workcamp, where the parents and volunteers will work together on setting new water play equipments and paving the ways. Secondly, the volunteers will help transforming a huge forest and meadow land into an educational garden of the association. The work will include clearing vegetation and building a fence. Furthermore the volunteers will help with the renovation of “Mehrgenerationhaus”, which means wallpapering and painting the rooms.
ACCOMMODATION: in the building of the future “Mehrgenerationhaus”. Several rooms, a kitchen and toilets will be provided. Showers will be available at the children´s house across the street.
LOCATION: Johannesberg is a small village with about 3.000 inhabitants and is situated close to the city of Aschaffenburg in the northern part of Bavaria. Coming from any directions, already from far away, visitors can see the baroque church, which was build in 1769 and is located on the highest point of Johannesberg, 367 meters above sea level. Volunteers will have an opportunity to discover and enjoy the beauty of Johannesberg - diversity of nature, the fascination of fields, forest, meadows and fruit trees.

IBG 02 Ammerndorf-Großhabersdorf (Bavaria) 27.05. – 09.06.2012 CONS 10 vols
PROJECT: This workcamp is going to be a close cooperation between two neighboring communities in Bavaria – Ammerndorf and Grosshabersdorf and they are very glad to invite a group of international volunteers to help them to implement their eco-friendly citizen(play)ground and an outdoor herb garden.
WORK: In the first week you are going to help out the municipality of Ammerndorf. They have developed a concept for an eco-friendly citizen(play)ground. It is going to become a place where young and old, teacher and parents, youngsters and professors can come together and have a place either to play or relax. All the materials used for the constructions of the citizen(play)ground will be natural and come from the region.
In the second week you are invited to Großhabersdorf, which is a small community about 6km far away from Ammersdorf. In the past this place has been used as a parking and festival place, but now it needs to be changed and become a herb garden. Some tasks will be done in advance and in this week you are going to set up new path ways, set the raised beds for the plants and put signs and explanations. Your work will be supervised by professional workers.
Accommodation: in the building of the fire brigade in Ammerndorf. Sleeping room, kitchen, showers and toilets are provided. In the second week you will also be accommodated here, the local host will organize transport for bringing you to Grosshabersdorf and back.
LOCATION: Ammerndorf and Grosshabersdorf are two small villages with about 2.000 and 4.000 inhabitants and are situated in the region of Bavaria, Germany. Many recreative trails invite hikers to discover the beautiful surrounding on foot. The closest cities are Fürth and Nürnberg.

IBG 03 Nagold (Baden-Wurttemberg) 08.07. – 24.07.2012 FEST / CONS 13 vols
PROJECT: The youth centre of Nagold is one of the oldest partners of IBG and for the past seventeen years they have organized very successful workcamps. Groups of volunteers were invited to help them with different renovation and cleaning tasks, making a movie about workcamps and organizing a Celtic festival. This year the city of Nagold is happy to host one of the biggest events in Baden-Wurttemberg called Landesgartenschau (garden festival) which will take place from April until October and gather more than 300.000 visitors and guests. Within this garden festival the Celtic festival is going to take place again and therefore your help and support is needed.
WORK: The workcamp participants will be helping out at the “Keltenfest” in Nagold, a festival about Celtic history and living. In the beginning of the camp the work will focus on the preparation of the festival. The participants will get an introduction to Celtic history so that they all know what the festival is about. Throughout the festival the group will have different working tasks to fulfil. They will build different authentic constructions and produce Celtic costumes. From 21.07.-22.07. there will be children days at the festival, in which the group is going to help out and taking part in the team competition.
ACCOMMODATION: The group will be staying in the youth centre with basic conditions. Two sleeping rooms with beds will be provided. Showers will be available at the swimming pool nearby.
LOCATION: Nagold is situated in the beautiful “Black Forest” and has about 22.000 inhabitants. The youth centre, located in the inner city of Nagold, is a meeting point for young people aged 14-20. Beside many other possibilities to spend time in the youth centre you will find rooms and equipment to play music, to dance and make videos and plenty of other things to spend your leisure activities. Trips to Stuttgart and Tuebingen, hiking in the Black forest, horse and camel riding, swimming and playing beach volleyball are only some of the possible activities. All the time local youth will be around so participants can look forward to getting in touch with them!

IBG 04 Meiningen (Thuringia) 08.07. - 29.07.2012 RENO / HIST 10 vols
PROJECT: For the first time, an international workcamp will take place in Meiningen. The local host is the association “Lila Archiv” working on the collection and archiving of materials about the life of women and men, homosexual people and resistance in the former German Democratic republic. For years they had been searching for a suitable place to set up an archive accessible for the public. Since 2009 they moved most of the materials to Meiningen where they found a house which is now used as archive and hostel. Two women who grow up in the former GDR run the archive and the hostel! They are excited to get to know you!
