i3 Application Packages

The i3 Application Packages provide instructions on how to submit an i3 application. There is a separate application package for each of the three types of i3 grants (Scale-up, Validation, and Development). These packages also include the links to the NIAs, program legislation, and mandatory forms. (a) INSTITUTION OF HIGHER EDUCATION.—For purposes of this Act, other than title IV, the term ‘‘institution of higher education’’ means an educational institution in any State that—(1) admits as regular students only persons having a certificate of graduation from a school providing secondary education, or the recognized equivalent of such a certificate, or persons who meet the requirements of section 484(d)(3); (2) is legally authorized within such State to provide a program of education beyond secondary education; (3) provides an educational program for which the institution awards a bachelor’s degree or provides not less than a 2-year program that is acceptable for full credit toward such a degree, or awards a degree that is acceptable for admission to a graduate or professional degree program, subject to review and approval by the Secretary; (4) is a public or other nonprofit institution; and (5) is accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency or association, or if not so accredited, is an institution that has been granted preaccreditation status by such an agency or association that has been recognized by the Secretary for the granting of preaccreditation status, and the Secretary has determined that there is satisfactory assurance that the institution will meet the accreditation standards of such an agency or association within a reasonable time.

Institute of Education Sciences (IES) Resources on Evidence and Evaluation

·  The What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) Procedures and Standards handbook includes the evidence standards for "well-designed and well-implemented" experimental and quasi-experimental studies (as defined in the NIAs) and descriptions of reasons why studies may fail to meet WWC standards.

Open Innovation Portal

The Open Innovation Web portal is an online tool that supports collaboration to further develop project ideas and identify potential partners. Applicants to the i3 Fund will not receive additional points or gain any formal advantage over those applicants who do not post their ideas and related information on the portal. https://innovation.ed.gov/

Grants.gov

Grants.gov is the online source to find and apply for federal grants. Grants.gov is a central storehouse for information on over 1,000 grant programs and provides access to approximately $500 billion in annual awards. Unless the applicant qualifies for an exception to the electronic submission requirement, all i3 grant applications must be submitted electronically via Grants.gov.
