8th Science

Week of Mar. 3rd – 7th

Class Name / Monday 3/3rd
Objective
(I will…) / Compounds and Mixtures
  • I will know the characteristics of a compound
  • I will be able to compare & contrast different types of mixtures

STANDARD / STANDARD II.I.I.3: Understand the differences among elements, compounds, and mixtures by: classification of materials as elements, compounds, or mixtures; interpretation of chemical formulas; separation of mixtures into compounds by methods including evaporation, filtration, screening, magnetism.
STANDARD II.I.I.6: Know that compounds are made of two or more elements, but do not all sets of elements can combine to form compounds.
Strategies / Quickwrite, collect
Teacher Activities / TTW help students set up their cornell notes and have students provide info on compound components. (types of Mixtures)
Student Activities / TSW use a flow chart to follow the characteristics of the compound and types associated with cmpounds.
Assessment/Evaluation / Students will be asked exit questions based on their cornell notes. Students will be told their SBA teacher testing site
Modifications / Accommodations / As per IEP
Modified test, provide notes, visual, audio info etc
Academic Vocabulary / Compound , Mixture, Substance, Homogeneous, Heterogeneous, Covalent bond, Ionic bond
Additional Resources / WS classifying the differences of the two types of mixtures / flow chart
