DATING

I. Two types of dating
A. Casual Diversified

II. Purposes and benefits of dating
A. Help you develop your personality
B. Help you learn to understand and communicate with the opposite sex.
C. Help you develop your role, social graces, and sharpen your personal
appearance.
D. Help you determine God’s will concerning who you are to marry.
You get to know the person before you have made any commitment.
E. Opportunities to minister together. Also, see if you are interested in the
same type of ministry.
III. Pitfalls
A. Irresponsible use of time.
B. Irresponsible use of money.
C. Can get involved physically and cloud your relationship with God.
IV. Your standards of purity should be determined from God’s Word, not your
past experiences, culture, or peer group.
A. I will not establish a dating relationship with a non-Christian. 2 Cor. 6:14
B. I will not establish a dating relationship with a Christian who is not growing.

C. I will not let dating interfere with my own personal walk with God or
my ministry. Matthew 6:33
D. I will not do anything in my dating life that I feel is not glorifying God.

1. Immorality is wrong – even if you love each other. Genesis 39:9-12;

2. Defrauding is wrong.
V. I will trust God concerning a life partner. Proverbs 19:14
A. I will be willing to be single if He so chooses. Mat. 19:10-12; 1 Cor. 7
B. I will delay marriage in order to get the training I need in my Christian life and
my schooling if He so chooses.
C. I will only marry when I am convinced that this is God’s will for my life; I
can know this by faith. Proverbs 18:22; Proverbs 19:14
