TERMINOLOGY

Media – Medium means channel for transmission of information (Vrba, Všetulová, 2003).

Multimedia – Multimedium is a compound of words multi and media. Multi means a lot of and multimedium is a conection of different types of data (music, image, text). So, multimedium is total of media which has some information for us. Interactivity is typical for multimedia (Průcha, 1997).

Multimedia are part of our lives. In these days, their use in education system is essential.

Under the term of multimedia, we can imagine:

-multimedia computer (Personal Computer with speaker and other accessories, for example a laptop),

-multimedia applications (education multimedia programmes, for example electronic encyclopedia or book),

-the Internet.

Interactivity – Interactivity is an atribute of a system (for example electronic textbook) which can actively adapt to a user and it enables a user to participate in the educational process. For example, the system enables selection of variants or it corrects mistakes of a user (Průcha, Walterová, Mareš, 2002).

Literature lessons– Literature lessons are an integral part of subject Czech language. It has mainly a pedagogical and esthetical function.

PC IN EDUCATION

Implementation of multimedia into education means use of computer in education. We differentiate education about PC and education with PC.

Education with PC is divided into computer-controlled (PC overtakes the role of ateacher) and computer-assisted (PC is a helper for a teacher). (Jandová, 1995)

EDUCATION MULTIMEDIA PROGRAMMES

It is software which presents curriculum in an interactive form. Software should control obtained level of information and provide feedback of pupils´ or students´ results.

Classification of education multimedia programmesis varied, for example:

  1. Way of programme using (self-study, education at school).
  2. Function of programme in education (el. textbook, encyclopedia; programme for curriculum exposition or fixation etc.).
  3. Ages or types of user (elementary school, lower secondary school, high school...).

CD-ROMs OF LITERATURE

1.Electronic version of textbooks, for example:

Electronic Textbook of Literature,

Electronic Interactive Textbooks by Fraus Publisher.

2.Electronic encyclopedia, glossary, for example:

The Authors of World Literature for Children and Youth.

3.Presentations thematically focused:

The Box of Jára Cimrman.

4.Presentations focused on one author, for example:

Franz Kafka Lived in Prague,

Josef Škvorecký.

5.Possibly preparing course for „maturita“ (it means a final exam at high school):

Literature („maturita“ in short).
