I’m Walking Across America!!!!!

You are going to walk across America like Mr. Peter Jenkins in his novel. There are two parts to this project: the writing and the journey. Each part is just as crucial, and needs to be kept inside a paper folder with prongs. All parts must be typed.

Writing Assignments- (500 points)

  1. Introduction & Explanation Paper (100 words)- You must introduce yourself. You don’t have to be you; you can make up a name or be a celebrity. This paper is also to explain what you expect to accomplish on this trip.
  2. State Paper- You must write a detailed description of each state you visit, and why you are visiting that state. Discuss the attraction it has for you and what you plan to do there. Each state must be discussed in at least a fewcomplete paragraphs. You must include at least two different attractions from within the state you are visiting. These can be attractions for which the state is well-known or obscure attractions that you find as you are researching. You must include what cities you visit. You just have to visit one city in each state, but you can choose to visit up to three within that month.
  3. Conclusion Paper (100 words)- This paper is to write about what you have learned about the country throughout your journey. Compare and contrast the places you visited to your hometown. Describe what you liked and did not like about these places.

Your Journeys- (500 Points)

  1. You have one year to walk across America. You will begin your journey in your hometown, and travel to twelve different places in the country. You have ONE YEAR to complete this trip.
  2. You have $750 to spend. Explain how you will spend all the money. Include food, clothing (if you are visiting places with extreme weather), and any other expenses (attraction admissions). Remember that you must have accommodations in the places you stay. You can stay with friends and family you might have in these places, or you can create people like the folks that Peter Jenkins met along his journey. If you create people, you must develop them as characters. Creativity will help when trying to spread out your money.
  3. You must tell where you are and how you will celebrate designated holidays.
  4. You must work for SIX weeks somewhere doing something. What will you do, and where will you stay? How much money will you make? Keep in mind that you can only work somewhere that accepts the education that you currently have.
  5. You must plot your journey on your map. You don’t have to worry about transportation from place to place. You magically jump from state to state, so you do not have to visit states bordering one another.
