Theme that this lesson would tie to:Creativity and teamwork leads to success.

Specific Topic Concept within that theme:Creating lip balm to sell as well as to ship to soldiers in the military.

PROJECT IDEA + brief notes & supplies / BASIC CONCEPTS
Essential Concepts:Students will be placed on teams to create lip balm using research and creativity to make 2 different flavors. They will also create video jingles and posters to market the product.
Still need: S – MA – LA – SS – PE
Basic Plan:
Students will start by researching the origin of lip balm and different recipes used to make it. Students will view Power Point about the purpose of surveys. Students will survey peers to determine what flavors, additives, and prices will be used for the product. Students will participate in a label design contest to determine the winning labels that will be used on the lip balm that is created. Students will be taught how to find averages and from the data collected from surveys, they will determine the price that will be assigned to the lip balm. Students will view video of the top ten jingles/commercials in our country. Students will discuss the purpose of jingles and billboard advertisements, why companies use them to sell their products, and the importance of jingles/billboards being attractive to consumers. Students will then participate in a jingle/commercial and poster contest. The winners will be videotaped and used for marketing and advertising purposes.
Students will have a 2 flavored lip balms sets?that will be sold and/or as part of a service learning project, some of the lip balm can be shipped to military soldiers.

  • Concepts –planning marketing strategy through surveys and analysis.
  • Goal / Objectives–I can analyze data from a survey to determine a strategy for creating and marketing lip balm. I can use the lip balm surveys to analyze and find the averages of suggested prices given.

  • Project –research the cost and profits for the product through surveys. Tally results from survey. Measure ingredients.
