Movband!

We highly recommend using the MOVband for the HOPE course. The MOVband provides a convenient and accurate way to count your daily movements, so you get credit for doing chores around the house, walking the halls at school, and other everyday activities. In this busy and fast paced world we live in, it is important to have the youth of today be active in their daily lives’. The MOVband is an amazing opportunity for students to measure activity. It also works as one of the ways we, as FLVS HOPE instructors, can verify activity. Our hopes are students use the MOVband after this course to instill a lifetime commitment to staying healthy and leading an active life!

If you still need to purchase one, you can use this link:

Please begin syncing your activities to your dashboard within the course as soon as you have activated your band. Watch this video to help you with this process,

Part of the process is registering your band and setting up a profile through the MOVband site. If you need assistance setting up your band, you can always contact our FLVS Help Desk at (Click on the Activities & Resources menu choice) or call 1-866-322-8324. Or, you can contact the MOVbandcompany directly at 440-746-1234 or email: .

We understand you have lots of questions about your new piece of exercise equipment. Please read over our MOVband fact sheet for more information. PDF for DOC

Take the quiz and then hit the submit button. You have finished your first assignment. This is a pre-test to see what you know. Point value is minimal and will not impact your grade.

Lesson 1.3 Fitness Video Submission

You will submit a one-minute video showing your form as you complete two of the following activities. You will show two complete movements for each activity so your instructor can give you the appropriate feedback and tips.

Choose two of the following:

Push-up

Curl-up

Trunk lift

Sit and reach

Sometimes uploading your video can get tricky. Here is a safe way you can allow your instructor to view your assessment. First, check with your parents to get the "OK" to create a Google Drive account here (it’s FREE and SAFE – nothing on the account can be accessed by other internet users unless you’ve provided the link to them!):

Next, load your video file:

Here’s how to do it:

In whatever application you are using for your video/slideshow (Photostory, Windows Movie Maker, iMovie, Adobe Premier, smartphone app, etc), save your project as a video (note- this is different than saving the project). Make sure your video is one of the following formats: .wmv, .mov, .flv or mpeg4. Google accepts other types, as well, but these are the most common.

Open your Google Drive and click on the Upload icon (next to Create). Choose “File,” browse for your video and upload. Note that the icon for the uploaded video file is different than other types of Google Docs.

It will take a few minutes (sometimes longer) for your video to be processed. Once it is, you can click on the video and it will play right in the browser.

Click “Share” (on the upper right) and you can decide who can see the video: anyone at all, just specific people you name, or anyone who has the link. I usually go with “Anyone with the link,” as you can just post the link in the Student Comment Box under the Assessment Tab, only I have access to this.

When people watch your video, they won’t need to download it- instead, it will play in the browser, just like a YouTube video.

Finally, copy and paste your Google Drive Video link (instructions on getting this link above) into the Student Comments Box of the Video Assessment Submission under the Assessments Tab…. Voila!

Be sure to save these instructions because this will not be your last video submission. 

1.03Fitness Assessment

After you have read through the lessons you will find a document link (page 10) titledFitness Assessment Results Document. Please open this and record your results in the chart and answer the reflection questions. You will save this and submit. Please see below for instructions on submitting your work correctly.

Florida Virtual School Expectations You and Your Parent/Guardian Need to Be Aware of:

  1. The first 14 days in a FLVS course is your Drop/Add period or “trial period.”You may contact your instructor if you no longer wish to take the course with “no grade” during this period or you will be automatically withdrawn at the end of your drop/add period if you have not submitted your required work. During the Drop/Add Period you are expected tocomplete the “Getting Started” section and Lessons 1.00 thru 1.03 reading and assessments/quizzes.
  1. Consistent communication and weekly work habits are expected. Students should login, show up to class as they would in a regular course at school, and submit work weekly. Please check your email on the Dashboard and the in your course regularly to communicate and receive communications from your Instructor.

3. You signed a Code of Ethics in the Course Request Form. Students agree to submit authentic work, not copied from another student or from another source without citing the source. Academic Integrity is very important at FLVS. Violation of the agreement is grounds for discipline and/or dismissal. This is also discussed in the Getting Started Section.

4. In this course, you are required to complete three Wellness Plans which will consist of workout logs and other components to monitor your physical activities. You will construct your workout schedule as you move through the course. Each wellness plan is different for each module. Your logs will be verified by a parent or guardian during our monthly communication. The MOVband is an integral part of this course. Please see the information at the top of this guide regarding the purchase of the MOVband if you still need one.

5. Students are expected to talk with their teacher for a Discussion Based Assessment after completing Module 1 and Module 3. Discussion Based Assessments (DBA) cannot be skipped. These assignments are a way for us to touch base and have a conversation about what you are learning.

IF YOU ARE SCHEDULING APPOINTMENTS PLEASE GIVE YOUR LINK HERE!!!

6. Collaboration is required for each Segment of HOPE. LIVE sessions are advertised on the Announcement page and offered weekly to help you complete this assignment. If you participate in a LIVE session, you will not need a partner. You will just need to collaborate with other HOPE students within the session in order to receive credit for the assignment. Please check out the Announcement page today and join us for a session in Week 5 after Module 1 is completed! **Please remember to watch the pre-lesson video before you log into the collaboration meeting.

7. Do you have questions or need help with an assignment? If so, look for the HOPE Help Site on the Announcement page of the course. Here you can find videos, graphic organizers, DBA study guides, and lots of other helpful resources. Still have questions? Please contact your teacher. We are here to support you and want you to be successful in the class.

TIPS FOR SUBMITTING YOUR ASSIGNMENTS:

Create a folder on the desktop of your computer to save and keep copies of all of your assignments. We suggest you call it “HOPE.”

Do not insert any extra periods in your filenames. (example: 2.01.rtf – please change to 2_01.rtf). The system will not upload your file if there are extra periods in your filename.

CHECKING YOUR PROGRESS (FOR STUDENTS & PARENTS):

HOW DO I CHECK MY GRADE? Click on the GRADEBOOK link on the left hand side of your screen. You will see a list of all of the assignments in the course and your grades. Click on individual assessments to read instructor comments and suggestions. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see your current average in the course.

CAN I RESUBMIT WORK? You may resubmit your work through the GRADEBOOK area of the course. If you receive an unsatisfactory grade on a quiz/exam let your instructor know when you call for your next oral assessment and we can review the information with you. You are able to reset the quiz yourself up to 3 times.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO SEE MY GRADE? Generally it will take 48 hours for your instructor to grade your work. All Instructors haveLead Teachers who may also assist with grading your work in the course.

Each Segment of HOPE requires a minimum of 21 days in the course. This 21 day seat time requirement begins when you submit your first assignment.
