“I Have a Dream”

The following dreams were written by the students in the ABLE/GED class at Elder Tech Reach on January 26,2017. They were written in the spirit and style of Martin Luther King’s 1963 speech entitled “I Have a Dream”. Read and be inspired!

I have a dream that one day I will move into a better house with a big backyard so that my kids can go outside and play free from the worry of violence.

I have a dream today that I will get my GED, find a good job, and open a day care or a hair salon.

I have a dream that I will get my education. I will get my education to better my life and my kids’ lives. I would like to have my education before another year goes by. I will study hard until my dream comes true.

I have a dream that my kids will have a good and healthy future. I will do whatever it takes to make that happen. I will go back to school and get a better job so I can show them everything I know.

I have a dream that one day I will get my GED and a degree in phlebotomy so I can work at a hospital drawing blood. I have a dream one day I will be a phlebotomist.

I have a dream I will accomplish my greatest challenge (getting my GED) and biggest dream because if not I can’t do anything for my two children who are the most important things in this world to me. I want to be a positive role-model. I want to show them that even if you don’t have a full high school education you can still accomplish and become someone.

I have a dream that I can take care of my wife and child and have a better relationship with them. I want to be able to talk to my wife about anything; I want to be the best parent to my child by giving my child what he/she wants and needs. I want to be able to buy my wife the nice things she deserves.

I have a dream to get my GED. I need to study hard every day. When I get my diploma, I want to attend college to be a nurse; I like to help people.

I have a dream that one day the food industry will no longer be allowed to genetically engineer our food. I have a dream that the people of the United States will become educated on the severity of this matter and will rise up and educate the uneducated on the dangers of “GMO” genetically modified organisms.

I have a dream that one day I will own four businesses that I have in mind. First, I am going to open my own tax service. Next, I am going to open a hair salon. I’m also going to own a restaurant and real estate. In order for me to accomplish my goals, I’m going to finish school and obtain my GED. After I get my GED, I’m going to college to receive my business degree. I plan to do this in four years.

I have a dream that one day I will live to see all my children graduate high school and college. I don’t want to worry about my children not being able to enjoy life or have financial worries. I want to be their support and role model along the way to help keep them motivated. That is one of the reasons why I am back in school and working as many hours as I can.

I have a dream that one day I will have a lot of money so I can take care of my family especially my mother and my granny. I need a great job to have a lot of money to take care of my family. I have to stay humble, stay in school, and keep my head up to succeed in life and to take care of my family. I want my family and I to be great financially in 50 years.

I have a dream that one day people can learn to help and not hurt, fix and not break, love and not hate, and treat people the way they would want to be treated. The world will never be perfect; I just wish I lived in a place where the people thought that one day it could be.

I have a dream to be wealthy enough to travel the world. The first step to achieving my dream is to get my GED.

I have a dream to achieve a profession. This profession will be the bridge in which I will proceed toward my success of accomplishing the other ambitions I have for my future.

I have a dream to tour different countries to learn their ways and life styles. I have a dream to learn a new skill to enrich my life.
