· Anatomy/Physiology is meant for the highly motivated student who is interested in a career in the medical fields.
· I encourage all students to ask for help when needed.
Grade Weight:
1. Assessments will be worth 40% of the total grade this will include Tests and Lab Practical’s
2. 30% of the total grade will include the dissection PowerPoints
3. Projects/Reports including the final Drawing Notebook grade in the 4th nine weeks will be worth 20% of the total grade
4. Worksheets and individual drawings will be worth 10% of the total grade
Assignments:
1. It is the responsibility of the student to turn in all assignments in class, on the day that they are due, in the appropriate folder, or it will be considered late!
2. Once an assignment is graded/returned you can no longer turn it in for credit!
3. Absences are NOT an excuse for late work or extended time for tests or homework! Any extenuating circumstances must be discussed BEFORE the due dates or test dates, not after.
Disease Diary:
1. On the 15th of every month a Disease Diary (Google Doc) will be due.
2. Reports are to be typed and must have at least 2 types of resources.
3. Each month will cover a different Disease from the different body systems.
Drawing Notebook:
1. You will be given a list of items that must be drawn, labeled, and
colored. These will be placed in a notebook.
2. Individual drawings will be due as we move through the material.
3. The entire notebook will be due after the 4th nine weeks midterms.
4. The notebook is worth 240 pts.
5. These drawings are to be drawn, not traced!
6. Microscope drawings are to be drawn when viewed under the
microscope. Not from a picture in a book.
7. Any drawings that had points marked off may be redrawn for full
credit on the final turn in of the notebook.
Tests:
1. There will be a test for each unit covered.
2. Tests will include a variety of questions. Essay, multiple choice, fill in, true false make true, as well as graphs, and charts.
3. If you are absent for the test you will have to make arrangements to make the test up before or after school in the designated testing room. NO TESTS ARE MADE UP DURING THE SCHOOL DAY!
4. You will have one week to make up your test. If the test is not made up within one week from the test date the grade earned will be a zero and you be referred to Saturday School. Any exceptions must be discussed with me before the time for makeup has expired.
Fetal Pig Dissection:
1. You are responsible for turning in an electronic visual display for each section dissected.
2. You will take pictures of the fetal pig and then label the appropriate pieces and parts.
Lab Practical:
1. A tissue, bone and muscle practicum will occur throughout the year.
2. These Lab Practical’s are timed and will test your knowledge and lab skills using the microscopes, skeletal bones and fetal pig dissection.
Hall Pass:
1. Students must ask for permission to use the pass.
2. It is very important for you to be in the class to insure that you receive all information needed so the hall pass should be used sparingly and quickly.
3. Misuse of the pass will result in detention
Classroom:
1. Be in your seat before the bell rings.
2. Remain in your seat through out the class unless specified by the instructor.
3. All throwing away of trash or sharpening of pencils should be done
before class begins or during work time NOT DURING LECTURE
4. Come prepared to work every day: textbook, notebook, pen, paper, and any other specific materials needed for that day.
Cell Phones:
· Cell phones are NOT to be used during lecture
· Cell phones are NOT to be used for making phone calls, texting, or picture taking at any time during the class period
· Cell phones will be put away and NOT seen during class

Extra Credit:
· Medical Related Community Service: Available each 9 weeks
1. Opportunity to earn extra credit by volunteering at a nursing home, hospital, or other medical area.
2. Extra credit may also be earned by a successful donation of blood at a various blood drives throughout the year.
3. You must provide documentation showing the date(s), the hours, an explanation of duties, and signature of a supervisor.
Laboratory Safety Rules:
It is your responsibility to protect yourself and other students by conducting yourself in a safe and appropriate manner while working in the classroom or lab. Always follow these rules and all other instructions given by the teacher to insure safety for you and others.
1. A partner will either be assigned to you or your will select one who will work seriously in the lab. Never play with lab equipment, lab materials, or specimens. No horseplay or practical jokes. You may lose lab privileges if your group does not follow proper lab procedure.
2. Before beginning, tie back long hair and roll up long sleeves. Wear appropriate shoes and avoid wearing loose clothing or your newest outfit on lab days.
3. Wear approved safety glasses/goggles when appropriate while working in the lab. When necessary, wear protective gloves and aprons. Preserved specimens contain chemicals that can irritate the eyes and the skin; they may also damage clothing.
4. Prepare a work area that is free from clutter. Use only necessary lab sheets, texts, or other materials as directed by the instructor.
5. Always follow instructions and wait until you are told to begin before starting any investigation. Do not move on with an exercise until told to do so.
6. Never eat or taste anything in the lab, including food, gum, or candy; and keep your hands away from your face and mouth.
7. Never perform any experiment not specifically assigned by the instructor. Do not work with unauthorized material.
8. Dissecting scalpels are very sharp. Use them with care and never touch the blade. Use extreme care with all other sharp instruments. Do not use damaged or broken lab instruments. Report broken materials to the instructor immediately.
9. Never carry a scalpel in your hand – transport scalpels only in dissecting trays. Never cut objects while holding them in your hand. Place objects in dissecting tray for all incisions.
10. Perform dissections only as directed by the instructor. Do not puncture, do not make additional cuts, and do not abuse your specimen. Never remove a specimen or any part of a specimen form the lab.
11. Never use equipment with frayed cords, and never use electrical equipment around water or with wet hands.
12. Report any accident, incident, or hazard to the instructor immediately.
13. Clean up your work area and wipe the table at the conclusion of your lab.
14. Dispose of waste materials in appropriate containers, and wash hands at the conclusion of each lab exercise.
