Hi, students!

I am honored (and thrilled!) to have the opportunity to teach 7th grade AC academic habits for the remainder of this school year. In order to make this transition a little bit easier for all of us, I want to introduce myself.

My name is Ryley Nix. I also attended Cobb County public schools and graduated from Hillgrove High School. For most of my life, I dreamed of being a teacher. My family always jokes that we have two fields that we have to go in: medicine or education. Every one of my siblings and cousins is in one of those two fields! When my older sister began her teaching career in 2004 at Pine Mountain Middle School, I found a love for teaching. I was eager to help her move into her classroom each year and would find as many opportunities as possible to be with her and her students or help her grade papers (which she was always happy about). When I graduated high school, I knew exactly what my next step would be. I began my college career at Kennesaw State University that next fall, majoring in Middle Grades Education with concentrations in math and language arts.

I am the third of three children in my family. My brother and sister are both married with children. That gives me my favorite job so far- being an aunt. I have an eight year old niece named Aubrey and an eight year old nephew named Micah. They are AWESOME. This summer, I get to add five more people to my family: my fiancé named Douglas, his parents, and his siblings. Douglas is currently completing a Master of Science from Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. His degree will be in applied mathematics and data sciences.

When I’m not in school, you can find me kayaking, hiking, crocheting, embroidering, reading, wedding planning, watching too much Netflix,or, my personal favorite, playing Settlers of Catan. I also love to travel. So far, I have been to Mexico, China, Macedonia, Canada, France, Austria, and Chad. One of my personal goals is to visit every continent, although I am not sure how I can make it to Antarctica yet. Feel free to offer suggestions for that one!

Like I said, I am so excited to get to know you this year and to help you grow even deeper in your love of reading.

Thank you for taking the time to read this!
