Algebra I

Room: CC-139

I am excited to welcome you to an exciting new school year! I want to share with you my philosophy that students learn best by taking an active role in their education. For that reason, this course will regularly consist of a variety of hands-on investigations, group activities, and some projects which will require daily participation, hard work and dedication during, and outside school hours.

Parents, I ask that you please support your child’s educational goals and encourage your child daily. As your child’s teacher, I am committed to providing a safe, comfortable environment that encourages responsibility and enables our students to be successful. Your child is important to us both and we will need your support to guarantee a productive year.

This year, each class will be “flipped”. Essentially, the students will watch short instructional videos at home, take notes, answer questions, then….. come to class the next day and get hands on activities and work! This environment is set up so that each student has the opportunity to view the material, pause, rewind and digest! The students can come to class with questions and it allows time for discussions. We will also be modeling how to take proper notes and what we expect in their notes. A calendar will be sent home each month with the dates the videos are to be watched. The website we will be using is called EdPuzzle. This is where the videos will be posted. We will be setting up each student’s log-in during class the first week of school. Please make sure your child is watching their videos. This IS their homework. It IS a grade. If they don’t watch their videos, essentially, they are not prepared for the activities in class the next day. It puts them behind in their learning and disrupts the flow of class.

Your child has received a brochure on the classroom procedures as well. Please make sure that you have viewed and discussed all forms with your child, especially my cell phone policy. Please sign this copy AND the brochure and return it to class as soon as possible as this is considered your child’s first assignment! By signing this form, you agree that you have read and agree to the classroom procedures. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
