I. Announcements…
- Start putting JellyBeans on homework from today til Tuesday it supports the Williamsburg field trip
- Very excited about the map on the basketball court- just in time to start teaching 13 colonies for the American Revolution
- Across the board explaining their thinking is really causing issues in all subjects
III. Planning/ Curriculum…
- Shared upcoming topics & dates with Mary Clay – she suggested checking out her pinterest site for some sites she has pinned
- Discussed possible topics for 5th graders to learn this year
- Need to email all intervention about field trip on November 2 to science museum
Science Interdependence/Dependence Assessment
Mann / Hyde / Belluz / Trost / Conrad63% / 26% / 52% / 15% / 22%
- This was the 2nd assessment after an initial assessment and reviewing again whole class & in small groups
- True/False questions they did pretty well with, but the written extended response questions were horrible
- Related to the eco-columns to help with a concrete example
Science Case 21 Assessment
Mann / Hyde / Belluz / Trost / Conrad37% / 35% / 23% / 5% / 8%
- This was the first application/EOG style questions they have seen in science
- Went over the assessment in small groups and had parents sign it
- 3 of the most commonly missed questions will be discussed in class Friday where they will practice explaining their reasoning for each of the questions- we will model & then they are writing their answers
- Next week, we will do a final Ecosystem review where they practice explaining their thinking to conclude the Ecosystem unit
- Discussed how to incorporate more vocabulary games where they will encourage each other to learn their words- they are not studying on their own even though it is homework every single night
Decimal Unit Test
Mann / Hyde / Belluz / Trost / Conrad38% / 4% / 18% / Did not finish grading / Did not finish grading
- Once again, explaining their thinking is very difficult for them- in class when we model how we solved a problem or they explain it to the class they do pretty well- but then asking them to explain how they solved the problem in writing is very difficult for them
- Decimal skills were applied during the Grocery Store Excursion Project and reviewed through warm-ups and homework practice
- Students took a quarter 1 cumulative assessment yesterday to see if progress was made from the unit assessment
- Katie Anderson stopped by to discuss our new Battleshape project- we had asked her to look at the level 4 opportunity –she had a few suggestions to help strengthen it
Critical Questions of a Professional Learning Community:
What is it we expect our students to learn?
How will we know when they have learned it?
How will we support them when they don’t learn it?
How will we respond when they already know it?
