Hurricane Irma 2017 -Report #2

1)Ragged Island, Bahamas

  • Catastrophic damage to all homes, government buildings and businesses
  • 100% home damage
  • Direct hit. No electricity, running water, or telephone
  • Church of the Holy Innocents, shingles off, but roof and ice and water shield holding – one hurricane window damaged – all other hurricane windows held
  • 4 a/c condensers damaged. Need urgent assistance for Catechist Daniel Wallace and other church members.
  • Portable generator placed in Church. (The building is now one of few electrified gathering spot on the island)

2)Great Inagua, Bahamas

  • 30% of homes and businesses damaged
  • Morton Salt Co. dock and maintenance building damaged
  • St. Philip’s Church roof and bell tower some shingles need replacing
  • Sunday School building (rented out to government for classroom space) all shingles and tar paper off. Roof compromised. Water damage – sheet rock ceiling collapsed. Urgent repairs needed. Ice and water shield and complete reshingling.
  • St. Philip’s Community Centre, Preschool and Parish Office shingles and tar paper off on kitchen and bathroom area. Roof compromised and water damage – sheet rock ceiling collapsed. Urgent repairs needed. New ice and water shield and complete reshingling needed. (The Parish Hall is also rented to government for classroom space)
  • St. Philip’s Rectory – no damage.
  • partial electricity, mobile phones on, water on.

3)South Caicos – Turks and Caicos Islands

  • Catastrophic damage to 80% of homes, government buildings and businesses
  • Direct hit. No electricity. Only partial mobile phone service
  • St. George’s Church- one of the main doors busted by sea surge. Sea water damaged interior. Roof held and windows held
  • St. George’s Rectory – 2 of the main windows busted by sea surge and sea water damaged the interior. Roof held. Some shingles need replacing but ice and water shield held.
  • Catechist Alden Durham’s home – roof half off.Catastrophe damage. In urgent need.

4)Grand Turk – Turks & Caicos Islands

  • 50% of homes, businesses, government buildings damaged
  • St. Mary’s Church had sea surge, some sea water damage. Church roof and windows all held.
  • Dillon Church Hall (the Parish Hall) held
  • Rectory had sea surge, some sea water damage, but roof and windows held. Perimeter wall collapsed.
  • Canon Lamuel Been’s home – half of the roof off. Catastrophic damage.In urgent need.
  • Canon Mark Kendall’s home – 3 areas on roof where shingles came off, water damage in the three rooms. Sheet rock needs replacing in those arears.
  • No electricity, telephone or water.
  • Portable generators at the homes of Canon Kendall & Canon Been.

5)Salt Cay – Turks and Caicos Islands

  • 80% of homes damaged
  • St. John’s Church – sea surge and water damage
  • St. John’s Hall – sea surge and water damage
  • St. John’s Rectory – sea surge and water damage
  • No electricity or telephone

6)Providenciales – Turks & Caicos Islands

  • 40% of homes, business and government buildings damaged
  • St. Monica’s Church- metal sheeting blew off the roof – tar paper off – plywood exposed- urgent need for ice and water shield and reshingling. Water damage to ceilings – sheet rock needs to be replaced.
  • St. Monica’s Rectory – half of roof blew off. Urgent need to replace roof – extreme water damage to interior – interior walls need replacing.
  • Only partial electricity, but mobile phones are up.
